This is definitely a gem in the desert. The hotel is in excellent conditions, has ample parking, free valet parking and also has a full service casino. Also there is a MOVIE THEATER on site, a spa and a bowling alley. This hotel is truly awesome and the price is very reasonable. The room is very spacious and clean. It has a flat screen tv with premium channels and on demand movies, also the bathroom is huge with a separate room for the bath tub and the toilet. This is great if you are sharing the room with someone other than your spouse...The hotel is on the southern very southern part of the strip. If you don't mind being away from the noise, buzz and horrible traffic of the main part of the strip then this is the place where you want to stay. Also, upon check in there was a very long line but now that I think of it, it was 4th of July weekend so I guess this was expected. I was not ok with the fact that they charged for internet ($12.95 per 24 hrs) and $15 to use the fitness facility although many people used the spa entrance to use the gym free of charge. Aside from these things, i had a great time at the South Point Hotel and will definitely return..

The pros: new hotel easy to get to from the freeway. The check-in line was long (it was the 4th of July weekend) but it moved fast and they gave us bottled water while we waited. The hotel elevator wasn't too far from the front desk (this is not always the case in Vegas - I think it took me over 15 minutes to walk to my room at the MGM from the front desk) and the hotel was very clean and our room was huge! And the bathroom was large and nice too. The walls must be thick because I didn't hear anything while we were in the room. Parking is free - there is surface parking or garage parking - your choice. Of course, you are several miles from the strip so you can take the shuttle, a cab or drive. We drove and parked for free at the Fashion Show Mall right on the Strip where parking was free. The pool was nice but way too crowded, but this always seems to be the case in Vegas - I would recommend staying far from the strip if you want to be able to swim in a hotel pool. If you are not planning on just doing the strip, it is nice to be located off the Strip since you can drive in and out a lot faster than if you were always stuck in the Strip traffic. Oh yeah, and we got a great deal through Expedia and paid only $75/night including taxes etc.

The cons: a few miles from the strip and you have to pay for internet access (but maybe this is the case at the other Vegas hotels too, I can't remember).

We stayed here an entire week for a convention. As others have noted, it's far from the real lights and action in Las Vegas. It took a long time to drive anywhere to see shows downtown, etc. The standard rooms were spacious and clean, but poor staff service overall was a continuous issue and a disappointment.

Pros:
* Price
* Fast elevators (2 banks) to rooms
* Free in-room safe
* Free coupon for some free slot play
* Spacious bathroom plus couch and coffee table in standard room
* Digital thermostat
* Large windows (view varies)
* Newer look/feel, with modern color palette in rooms
* Rooms felt and looked clean

Cons:
* Always enormous lines at registration, no matter day or time
* No electric, sensor-operated doors at front of hotel--you get the joy of wrestling them open manually each time, and they are heavy
* A very long hike to and from main entrance to rooms, doubly challenging when dragging your suitcases, and each way you are forced to navigate through a casino thick with smoke (asthmatics beware!)
* Limited hours for food vendors, and only Pepsi throughout hotel (yes, that matters to some of us)
* Skimpy supply of thin towels -- one per person; we requested extras several times, but only received them once
* We asked to borrow a bottle opener several times from room service, and it was promised every time but never delivered
* Shower was very low pressure; water only lukewarm
* Very few TV channels, and an odd mixture--many horse racing channels (for placing bets), Chinese and Spanish news channels, but not your typical CNN, HBO, Weather Channel, or anything useful
* Our TV picture tube blew out on the third day, was reported but never replaced during our stay (not that I really missed my nightly dose of the news delivered in Chinese anyway!)
* Business center had very limited hours and was very expensive--around $12 for an hour of Internet, and you could not save any of the paid time for later use
* We had read the slots were the second loosest in Vegas here, but that was not our experience
* The Garden Buffet was very disappointing. Food was poor to average at best. For dessert I chose a cheesecake which turned out to be warm Jell-O cheesecake (not the real stuff) and it had congealed fruit topping. It had been sitting out for a long time without refrigeration. Salad bar was limited and the lettuce was wilted.

Conclusion: A decent choice for budget travelers; if you value cleanliness over service; and are willing to drive a good distance for decent restaurants or shows.

South Point Hotel Review

My wife and I visited South Point Casino from June 24th ~ 27th.
First of all, let me please start with…

Pros & What to do while staying @ South Point Casino

1. Use your coupon! You will receive a small coupon booklet as you check in.
I personally used $25 Slot Machine Credit Coupon as well as Buffet coupon (2 for 1).
And also, take the gift giveaway coupon to the small grocery store in the casino, and you will receive a key chain. Not very valuable one, but remember, it’s free. :)

2. Buffet & Other restaurants
Do not expect 5 star high quality dishes at the buffet, but certainly, it’s not bad at all!
Many different kinds available! At least, I found it delicious. And also, check out the other restaurants as well. 4 to 5 different restaurants available including Steakhouse & Mexican restaurant.

3. Slot Machines
I only played slot machines rather than the table games and I actually saw some people hitting the jackpot. I saw a gentleman winning $4,000 playing Video Poker game. I personally had ups & downs but overall, they wouldn’t just take your money right away.
Just learn when to STOP playing when you earned some! :)

In addition, ASK FOR LOCAL BEERs or COCKTAILs while gambling! They are all free! I was able to enjoy playing slot machines while drinking beers. Yay!!!

4. Family Oriented; Movie & Bowling
We watched Transformer Two on 24th of June. We expected a lot of people, but it really wasn’t bad at all. Get a free popcorn using the coupon!!! Right beside the movie theater, you will be able to see a huge bowling center. Again, use the coupon if your plan is to play bowling!

Please be advised that I did not swim nor have a massage. I am not sure how the swimming pool or the spa qualities are like @ South Point.

5. If you have your own car, it’s not a bad idea to drive away from Strip (Casino) area!!!
I visited Hoover Dam as well as Red Canyon Region. It takes about one hour to get to Hoover Dam from South Point. Check out “Lake Mead” too on the way to Hoover Dam.
Hoover Dam definitely offers something to watch!

Now, let’s go over…
Cons & Why South Point Casino cannot be Five Star Hotel

1. Smoky Smoky Smoky Casino. Yes, I am very well aware of the fact that all the other hotels are the same as well where we will have lots of smokers while playing games. At South Point Casino, I do realize that they have the air filter system; however, there are perhaps too many smokers or what? Compared to any other hotels on the Strip, you can definitely feel the low quality of the air. After spending about an hour playing slot machine, you will be able to smell the smoky smell from your clothes all day long.

2. Distance from the Strip
You don’t have a car? Then, I am pretty sure that your plan is just to stay @ South Point.
It does take 15 minutes to 30 minutes (depending on the time) to get to the Strip.

Other than these two, I really don’t have any other points to complain about.
As you see, I have more PROs than Cons; and therefore, I would rate this hotel as FOUR STAR.

Overall, you are just receiving what you “paid” for.
You wouldn’t be able to stay @ Bellagio or Venetian with the money you are paying in order to stay @ South Point, right?
There’re always reasons to have the rooms available @ very cheap price compared to the market price @ Vegas. Oh! well, at least, I personally was very satisfied with South Point after all.

Thank you for reading!

Booked a cheap rate through Hotwire, who frankly fraudulently deemed this hotel "near strip south." it's 7 miles from the MGM, which is practically at the end of the strip. Huge development, fairly high end and clean. Lots of the amenities : two arcades, bowling, movies attract families; so there were lots of families there. Retirees and locals, until Friday night a good enough mix. On Friday huge hordes of grubby teenagers/twentysomethings were everywhere. Nice kids I'm sure but more a reenactment in the oughties of rock and roll high school than the scrubbed clubbing youngsters you see on the strip. Asked a blackjack dealer where they all came from and she said "TGIF." I'm guessing nickel beer and really relaxed security. I fled. Not sure if the whold weekend was like that but it was plenty to keep me away. To be fair the room was huge and very clean. Lots of marble and a big flat screen tv. Oddly for the quality finish out the tub/shower weren't upgraded. With the cheap price on Hotwire and a rent a car it was fine for me but those partaking of alcohol would more than give back their savings in cabfare. Decent enough except for whatever happens on Friday.
