The Atmoic Testing Museum is located on East Flamingo Rd. The museum is very fascinating, whether your a science buff or just looking for a way to spend a couple of hours outside the strip, this is the place for you. When you first pull up you'll notice the building is rather large, admission is on the right. You'll begin your tour to the right of you. Tons of information on Nevada's Test Sites, Benefits of Nuclear Testing and the history of testing fill the walls. Artifacts and materials are bountiful. The Ground Zero Theater lets you witness an atomic explosion. You'll really feel the effects! The Silo Theater consists of documented history with nuclear bombs. Your time here, will be truly explosive.

My wife and i visited the Atomic Testing Museum during a recent trip to Vegas. We took a pleasant walk from the strip, down Flamingo, to the museum which took about 30 minutes each way, and easily found it inside the Desert Research Institute building. The museum looks well kept and is very modern and the exibits are all in very good condition. We are normally keen on museums but for some reason we didnt particularly enjoy this one. There was perhaps just a little too much reading to do i think. Maybe we just weren't in the mood for so much text! I'd say it was just okay but nothing to make a special trip for.

Interesting and informative museum. Had planned on stopping here all along but after hiking over strip during morning and also walking out here, not sure if the quality of the museum mattered or it was just getting into an air-conditioned facility to obtain relief from 100 degree temperature. Putting that aside, we really did like the museum, especially as an alternative to the Vegas glitz. No shortage of detailed information though did feel that the health effects of the testing on surrounding lands/people were definitely underplayed. No shortage of books and information on this available and surprised they chose to almost ignore it.

Was not at all crowded and laid out so as to facilitate easy touring. Just around the corner from Firefly Bistro, good tapas restaruant and then easy hike back to strip especially to Venetian/Palazzo area.

I didn't really know what to expect going to this Museum -, maybe some weird guy’s basement all dolled up with a bunch of stuff he collected. But I was very wrong about that.

First off, this was one of the swankiest museums I've ever been in. Everything is professionally done, clean, interactive, working, and interesting. You can tell a lot of thought and money went into this place.

You can play with this one video of a shock wave hitting some test buildings, and slow it down the footage and watch it in detail - awesome. They have a bunch of little mini-movies in the museum, all of which are interesting to watch. Period videos and TV footage, wide variety of interesting things to look up, tons of things to read. I hit the modern nuclear era and was getting tired of all the thinking I did up to that point. But I continued onward, and in the end it was worth it.

Absolutely would recommend this place to anyone who has a car and wants to do something besides doubling down.

I highly recommend a visit to this museum. There is a wealth of informational exhibits and videos including a fascinating video actually taken during atomic testing many years ago. The museum is well laid out so it is easy to find your way through all of the different sections. They do provide a museum map. You should plan to spend at least 3-4 hours here to get through everything. We spent about 2 hours here as we arrived late in the day and we didn't get through all of the information. There is a small section regarding the people, animals and plants that were/are native to the test site area, however, the museum doesn't comment on their fate and, as noted by other reviewers, the tone of the museum is definitely pro-nuclear. In any event, the information provided in this museum is eye-opening and the way it is presented is not at all dry. Be aware that this is not a "hands on" museum so the target audience would really be adults or older teens. It should be noted that photographs may not be taken inside the museum.
