My husband and I stayed at the Rio April 9-14 2008. Upon arrival to The Rio, we were taken back by how long the line was to check in. We waited over an hour to just check in. This was so frustrating. My husband and I were ready to enjoy our trip and had to stand in line for over an hour. Our room was nice, remodeled with a nice view of the mountains. The windows had tape on them to seal the cracks. The cracks allowed the smell from the outside exhaust to seep in the room. Even with the air conditioner on the air was never fresh. No coffee is provided in the room, and at 7am both Starbucks at the hotel always were at least 45 people deep. The gym is not included, there is a fee of $22 dollars a day and when I asked to see the gym to see what it offered, the Spa staff said there are no tours provided but we could see pictures. We decided to just run outside. There were 4 pools. The pool with the sand beach was not open the entire 5 day stay. There were plenty of plastic chairs for the other three pools. The water was a very nice temperature, The outside area is not as nice as the pictures on the website look, just a very average pool area. The Rio advertises, the Masquerade in the sky, this is their casino draw. Unfortunately the show was closed for remodeling. It will be shut down for a few months. So there is no entertainment in the casino areas. We ate at the buffet, it was fine typical mass food production. I guess we just really did not like this hotel. The staff was always friendly, the house cleaning always did a great job, but there was nothing else about our stay that would ever have us stay there again. There are too many other choices.
