To start I think that you have to know who is writing a review before you can know if it applies to you or not. A family is going to react differently compared to an older couple compared to a single bachelor. Im 29, male and single and went with a large group of friends who got several rooms. I travel on business several times a month.I have stayed at the Bellagio, TI and others and found THE hotel to be the best.
To start, if you have American Express you should definately book your room with them. I had received a considerable discount on my room compared to what my friends were paying via Expedia. On top of that I got a total of $120 to be spent in the cafe or restaurant and $100 dollars to spend at the spa. The best part of it was the room situation. They gave me the highet floor, 4 pm check out (which is crucial in vegas) and guaranteed me 2 queen beds. You would only get this through the Fine Hotels and Resorts Program with a platinum or black amex. The late check out is crucial because in vegas most flights leave later and you are stuck in the casinos on your last day. This is intentional and all my friends ended up cramming into my room on the last day. At the end of any vegas trip youll be exhausted and you definately want the room as late as possible. I travel constantly and the FHR program with amex is great.
Ok, so the lines that people are writing about are actually not as bad as in other hotels. I checked in at primetime and there was NO ONE in line. When i checked out I had a 20 minute wait, which is nothing in Vegas. The only reason I checked out at all is I needed to split my charges, otherwise you just walk out and they check you out (there is also a drop box by the elevators to drop off your keys).
The smells people are talking about are one othe best reasons to stay at this hotel. The aromatherapy is not unlike the smae one used by Sony in their mall stores. It is similar to the scents used in their bath products which are amazing also. I will say that on the last day my room reeked of cigarettes because somewhere on my floor someone smoked even though it was a nonsmoking floor. This is not the hotels fault, in Vegas stuff like that will always happen. I called, they offered to switch me and I decided agasint it since I was so tired.
The people that work here were nothing but EXTREMELY professional and clean. I stay in many nice hotels, they were the best I had ever seen. The Ritz, the Bellagio, none compare to these people.
The hotel itself is gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. It is small, secluded and very elite feeling. Exiting an elevator to the sounds of a thousand slot machines is awful. I gamble, but I like the seclusion I feel in THE hotel. The distance to the Mandalay casino is about 100 feet and somehow they are able to completely hide the noise.
The rooms are the best value in Vegas. I am used to being upgraded to suites in any hotel I stay in and I was concerned that since I was getting two queen beds (they only have regular, not V suites with 2 queens) that I would not like the room. I was VERY surprised and delighted to get such a room. It was clean and updated. This is in contrast to most rooms in Vegas (like the Bellagio) which are small, overpriced and too dark.
We got a table at the club there called "Mix" and I have yet to see a prettier bar in my life. Its on the 60-something floor and has an outdoor area. It was gorgeous and I highly recommend it, and highly recommend you get a table outside, you are going to spend money anyway.
I stay in hotels all over the country and Vegas. This is the best deal out there folks.
