We had never visited Taqueria Cañonita during our visits to Las Vegas. Since we were staying at The Venetian this time, we found ourselves wanting a bite to eat but not wanting to go far to get it. Taqueria Cañonita was the perfect solution.

We ultimately ate there twice on this trip. The first visit was mid-afternoon. We were given a canal-side table, which was such a treat. It's great entertainment to watch the gondolas go by. We ordered iced teas, one queso fundido with rajas (smoked, sliced poblano peppers), and one taco platter. The queso fundido was delicious. The tacos were good, but we were not overly impressed with the pork taco. The chicken and beef were considerably better. The platter was also served with verde rice and black beans--both were delicious. The chips and salsa were also excellent.

On our second visit, we went for dinner and ordered the Classic Margaritas, which were outstanding. We both ordered taco platters this time--my partner ordered all chicken, and I ordered a combo of chicken, beef and fish. This round was exceptional and tasted a bit fresher than our previous visit. We were also given canal-side seating this time and again enjoyed the people-watching.

This is an affordable, good restaurant with fun surroundings.

I really liked this place. As a travel agent, I have recommended it to many of my clients, and they have all enjoyed it as well. It stands out among the places we at in Vegas. I had the Santa Rosa Barbacoa de Puerco – It is pork roasted in banana leaves w/ a cilantro rice…holy crap…so dang good! I loved the setting. The waiter was good. Everything everyone in our party had was good. I thought the prices were reasonable too. I made reservations ahead of time, and we got a waterside table which was fun. The best part is you sit on the grand canal and see the gondolas go by with the gondoliers singing in Italian. Food is pretty good and not too pricey, try the 6 taco platter. Great place for a modest lunch in the Venetian!

The setting by the canal is worth a meal here in the Venetian. The tacos carbon was just average. Another diner's roasted pork dish was delicious. The chips and salsa is quite good and worth ordering. I heard from others that the torta sandwich was incredible. Service was slow so expect to have a leisurely meal. We later stopped here for a mojito and it was fresh and delicious.
