Jasmine at Bellagio

May 9, 2008

My husband and I dined at the Jasmine in Bellagio during our stay there. It was our first night and quite late and we liked the look of it. We approached the front desk to ask for a table for 2 and was told a table would be available at 10.00pm. It was 9.30pm so a half hour wait. We could quite clearly see behind them that the restaurant was at most half full. My husband was convinved this was a ploy to get us to spend our money in the casino for half an hour while we waited! Nevertheless we duly returned at 10.00pm and our table was ready. (The restaurant was by now only about a quarter full). Wallet Warning - this restaurant is seriously expensive. We both had a starter, a main course and one bottle of wine. The bill was over $200 !! The food was very good and so was the service but we felt we were rather paying for the fact that it was at the Bellagio. By the time we were finishing our wine about 11.15pm we were the last table left and the waiters were tidying up around us and relaying the tables for the next day. If they were that keen to close up, why on earth, we wondered, did they make us wait half an hour in the first place! Overall, if you want to splash out then go for it, but you don't need to pay this much to get good food in nice surroundings in Vegas.

“The worst food experience ever!”

March 2008 - We went to Las Vegas as a surprise 40th Birthday trip and seeing as there was a group of us staying at the Bellagio, we decided to book the Jasmine during our holiday. 3-4 Weeks prior to the trip, the Jasmine was emailed to reserve a window table and this was confirmed by the restaurant. However on the night in question we had to wait over 30minutes for a table in the middle of the room! On questioning this we were told "a reservation doesn't mean we'll reserve the table" ?? Things then went from bad to worse, on asking for the chef's "signature" dish the waiter advised "I wouldn't recommend it..." The food was tasteless, bland and very expensive for what it was. $20 for stir fried beansprouts and another $20 for a plate of pak choi. This restaurant may once have been fantastic but unfortunately has rested on it's laurels. If you want fab service and good food then I would recommend to go anywhere but here.

A traveling companion and myself treated ourselves to the famous Jasmine at the Belligo in Las Vegas June 2007.

I ordered Hot & Sour Soup $9.88 a bowl and honestly I had alot better. The soup wasn't very spicy or flavorful. My entree was King Scallops at $32.88 floating in a back bean sauce. The scallops were fishy tasting and the sauce tasted like wallpaper paste. I did complain to the manager and to her credit she offered to replace my meal, but when I asked would I have to pay for both meals, she didn't answer me. Also I was charged $2.88 for a bowl of rice.

My companion ordered the Neptune Pillow ($33.88), which was a melody of lump crab meat, scallops, and shrimp topped with a crunchy noodle. Her crab-meat was so fishy she couldn't eat it, but the shrimp were tasty, again the scallops were off. The biggest disappointment of her plate was the vegetable of bok choy, it couldn't be eaten, she tried and tried to cut , saw, and beat the hapless vegetable but it would not give.

Overall for a meal of $96.33, this was a major disappointment and to add insult to injury .....no fortune cookie!!!

Dinner was pretty good, but for the prices, we did not think this place was worth it.
There were two of us, and we started by sharing a lobster dumpling appie… three tiny tasty dumplings for $17.
ordered two entrees to share, a seafood dish with crab, shrimp and scallops that was tasty, but not super flavorful and had almost no spice to it, very basic flavors. It was $33. Also ordered the General’s Chicken, it was very tasty, but it was only a pile of chicken on the plate, no veggies for $28.
total bill for the appie, two entrees and two pots of jasmine tea was about $100 before tip.
Good, but I wouldn’t rush back, I’ve eaten better asian food for sure. Then again, I live in Vancouver where there’s a million great Chinese/Schezuan restaurants.

We did however love the window seat that we were at with a lovely view of the fountains and it's worth noting that the restaurant itself is very nice and peaceful. very quiet, it was a nice change from the casino. also, the service was outstanding.
