Okay ... I read the reviews and I was pretty excited about going to the place, but when I got there ... not so much. The staff was very nice - John, Tony ... and the whole crew.
I admit, we didn't see a whole lot of the facility. I was there with a partner (one month into the relationship) and not looking for all of the three-way potentials. So we didn't see the steam room, video room, etc. We were just interested in the room itself, and pool with waterfall - and each other's company. The room looked pretty stressed ... the drawers needed to be slammed, otherwise they wouldn't close (sorry neighbors), the telephone didn't work (even after calling downstairs on my cell phone to ask for it to be fixed), and the purchased "pool view" room was just that ... from a third story room, you viewed twenty five percent pool, and seventy five percent parking lot (overlooking a downtrodden Vagabond Inn).
The bed - very firm. I'm not sure WHO designed that stupid trim around the bed, but it is the long-forgotten style of waterbed support railing that goes up to the top of the mattress. So be prepared for bruises all over your legs (and then some) for you and your partner.
Liked the staff - very helpful (except for fixing phones) - and very friendly when asking for Taxis and recommendations - because yes, you WILL be taking taxis. We walked one evening to the strip ... 40 minutes later with stinky body from immediately evaporating sweat in 9 p.m., 100 degree, 0% humidity climate. And THAT's why they give you a handy little spray can of complimentary Body Spray in your hotel room ... you will need it.
Would I do it again ... probably not. We aren't into the 'sharing' scene, so that's probably the biggest benefit of this type of facility. The other benefit, of course, is the ability to kiss, hold, and snuggle outside of your room in a public area without concern of public scrutiny. At a premium, you can also do this at upper establishments like the Palazzo - by renting a Cabana. We did this one day and had a blast. It's $400 per day, but it's always a fun option.
One other thing that "irked" me is lack of fore mentioning of specials on their website - I booked three nights at ~$130 per night. After I booked the reservation and arrived at the site, we found out they have a Summer Special ... book two nights and get the third night free. But you don't find out about this on-line special unless you sign up on their VIP guest site (free to sign up). Once we got there, they said that we couldn't use the "Special" since we had already paid over the phone and it had been "processed". SO SIGN UP ON THIER VIP LIST - if you are staying 3 nights ... it will save you $$.
The local gay guys seem to come for the Sunday BBQ (wieners and hamburgers) – so it was nice to meet some of the locals. Also, you need to walk two hotels down to the Artisan Hotel … it is a TRIP to see. They also recommend to eat there or have drinks – Blue Moon lacks a liquor license, and other than the Sunday BBQ, they don’t serve food other than continental breakfast.
