I had reservations about the Palms, but compared to some of the hotels directly on the strip, it was more or less the same price, and decided to give it a try.
Upon arriving around 12:00 p.m, we were told our room wasn't ready, but we'd be given a call when it was and were given a key to the pool. We skipped the pool and instead drove the short distance down Flamingo road to the strip and spent the whole day there.
Around 2:00 p.m we were notified our room was ready, but we didn't go back to the hotel until after 10:00 p.m. When we checked in we were notified our room had been upgraded to a "grand suite" on the 50th floor at no extra charge. The room was great, it was more like a mini apartment, with a seperate sitting room, mini bar, and two bathrooms, one was a whirlpool. The room was clean and hansomely furnished with floor to ceiling windows providing a great view at night.
As for the hotel, it was clean and didn't smell like smoke. Its size is not small enough to be considered "boutique," but it's not massive like some on the strip. The size is just right. We tried the buffet which wasn't too expensive, but I'd skip it next time. The hotel's ambience was nice, there's a lot of young people in my age range, but you also see children and older couples as well. Guests are given free guest passes to their nightclubs'lounges. We tried everything but Rain because it was closed, but the Playboy Club, Ghostbar, and Moon were fun.
My only complaint is about the pool. It's relatively small, and even though we went on a Tuesday afternoon, not the busiest of afternoons, it was still hard to find availiable chairs. On top of this, half of the pool had been blocked off with no visible reason as to why. That was stingy on behalf of the management.
