“Worst service, worst hotel in vegas. Avoid at all costs! ! Stay Elsewhere!”
I was excited to try out The Palms because, being younger (early 30's) and enjoying the vegas nightlife, I had stayed at the Hard Rock and Planet Hollywood and, while I thought they were good experiences, I wanted to try something new. Unfortunately, I was 100% disappointed. To start, the first night we stayed at one of the top suites at the Palms (over $3,000/night)... while the suite was okay, the service was horrible and they treated us like they were always doing us a favor whenever we had a request (such as "the bathrooms are dirty and the sheets have stains on them... can we please get this fixed"). The room smelled like smoke and they charged up $1.00 for the room phone. Yes, $1. Even if you never use the phone. I told them to remove the room phone and not charge us the dollar but they refused, saying it is mandatory to have a phone in the room... so, we are paying over 3K per night for a room and they have the worst SCAM in history going... $1 because the phone is in the room?!? Next thing you know, they'll be charging you for the toilet seat.
The suite wasn't available the last night we were there so we transferred to a junior suite, non-smoking. The moment we entered the room, we were hit by the worst cigarette smoke I've ever smelled. It took me over 10 minutes to reach the manager because the hotel operator and then the front desk kept on disconnecting me (they obviously make it very hard to get in contact with management... why?... because management wants it that way). When I finally talked to the front desk manager, he said "Sorry, we ask our guests not to smoke in non-smoking rooms but that's all we can do". Yes, that was his response. I asked to talk to his supervisor but he refused, saying the supervisor had left for the day and promised me that the supervisor would call me the very next day. Of course, we never received any call. And yes, on our bill was yet another $1/day "Line Access Fee" for the phone in our room, even though we never used it once. When I asked the front desk person about the $1 charge, she shrugged and said "yeah, I know that is the dumbest thing you've probably ever seen but the hotel manager wants it there so there is nothing I can do about it". So, it seems that the management is the true cause of the hotel being 100% crap and pulling ridiculous $1 scams.
The food was okay, the casino is very small. Overall, this was a terrible experience and I highly... HIGHLY... recommend anyone young and looking for fun in Vegas to stay at the Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood since both have excellent clubs and much (MUCH) better management and service.
