The Palms is off the strip and it doesn't feature a theme.
Facilities: The casino is not as impressive as those on the strip and during the day the clientele there is decidedly older. There are several excellent restaurants (including Budda Bar and a 24-hour diner.) The buffet is extremely reasonable and quite good.
The pool complex is the highlight- it's huge, has a great vibe of beautiful people, a DJ pumping R&B beats, and several cabana parties going on all-around you- the vibe is energizing.
We did book in at the spa. The service was standard but the prices for what you get are unreasonable. The layout and aesthetics of the spa are not even close to being on par with what they charge- go somewhere else on the strip like Quo Spa at Caesar's.
The club scene is madness- Rain, Ghostbar, Moon and the Playboy Club get very busy- except line-ups. It's well worth it- Moon's retractable roof and great music are worth the trip to the Palms alone- and the Playboy club is very posh and well done.
Rooms: Better than your Vegas average- the Fantasy tower is getting a little dated though now- some of the furniture was beat up and it could use a paint job (the dark lighting helps hide this)- but it is still in very good condition. I was happy with the room.
I did have a service problem that was never resolved. Right after check-out I discovered I left my keys and IPod in the drawer. I wasn't able to go back up to get them- I was staying in the Vegas area a few more nights at another property and they told me that housekeeping would phone me when they went in to the room and I could come back to get the items. They never called and I called them about 5 times only to leave voice mails that were unanswered and get transfered to unhelpful security staff because the housekeeping manager was MIA. The front desk eventually gave me a manager's # but the voicemail I left him was never returned. So- in short- they really don't go out of their way in regards to service- so be sure to not leave anything behind.
This is probably the best option for younger party inclined folks who are filling to pay for cab fare onto the strip. If you want to be close to the other events/attractions on the strip- you'll be taking a lot of cabs if you stay at Palms.
