Attending the performance of the Blue Man Group at the Venetian in Las Vegas ended up being one of the more traumatic events of my life. I know this sounds pretty dramatic but unfortunately for me, it's true. We were just in Las Vegas (1/27/06 - 1/31/06) so my memory of this event is still very clear. We have been to Las Vegas many times and have seen and enjoyed many varieties of shows and always thought we needed to add Blue Man Group to our list. What a mistake! First of all, the theater was quite warm and the seats in the new theater are very narrow (and, no, I'm not a wide person) which makes it all the more confining. I do have a problem with claustrophobia but did not receive any heads up warning from the ticket seller before purchasing the tickets about the horrendous ending of what turned out to be a very boring and uninspired production so I was completely unprepared for what happened or I never would have purchased the tickets in the first place. Throughout the show, my mind kept wandering because the performance didn't really keep my attention. Due to the fact that the temperature in the theater was not at a very comfortable level, it was that much more difficult to keep focus. I would have walked out before the end except we were in the center of our row and I didn't want to disturb the other people. I certainly wish I had listened to my inner thoughts. Our seats were in the upper orchestra which at least gave me a little bit of a warning of what was going to happen when I heard the commotion behind us and I turned around to see the sea of paper coming at us. I was mortified to find that we were going to be covered with all of those streams of wide width, heavy weighted crepe paper. Before I could do anything to get out of there the mounds of paper started coming and I ended up in a major panick attack. The paper was around my neck and because I jumped up out of my seat to rise above the sea of paper, it was around my legs and all I could feel was trapped. It was extremely embarrassing for me and totally unnecessary for this to be part of the experience. I did manage to break free, scrambled over the seats and the people behind me to an empty row and bolted out of the theater. My husband found a manager, who was barely sympathetic and made mention that they do post a sign with some warnings about the show. The so called sign, is inside the entry way to the theater so you've already purchased your non-refundable ticket before you find out that there may be some parts of the performance that could be troublesome if you have any phobic tendancies. Mainly by writing this review, I just want to warn anyone who may have the same issues as me to please check into the nature of the show further before putting out the $100.00+ per ticket and end up in the same, mortifying and embarrassing situation. I also feel that it might be a good idea if the ticket sellers could simply ask the question when you are purchasing tickets, if you have any issues with feeling closed in. If you say no, no further explanation is necessary so nothing about the show is given away. If you say yes, then additional information can be given to you so you can make an educated decision whether to proceed with your non-refundable purchase.
