We stayed at Paris for 5 nights over Christmas and New Year; 4th time in Vegas and a return trip to Paris. Thoroughly enjoyed our last stay and was pleased to see that not too much had changed, for the worse.
Arrived late at approx half past midnight. Long queue at check in with some rather disgruntled guests looking either to check in or out, only 3 check in desks open. Some guests said they had been waiting for an hour; maybe it was their complaining that speeded up the process as we were through in 20 mins. Management said they were short staffed.
Room on 21st floor, not one of the newly renovated ones, view not particularly inspiring [Hey, how much time do you spend in your room when in Vegas so the view was no problem]
but it was clean, well appointed and during our stay, well serviced by housekeeping [Contrast to our last trip to Vegas in 12/06 staying in Bellagio where the room was filthy and housekeeping was v poor]. Bathroom was nice and big and my wife was pleased that the hairdryer was decent!
The other member of our party was initially on the 8th floor but check in were good to their word and had her transferred up to the 21st floor the following day; nice room wth a strip view.
All in all, staff were helpful and polite.
No problems on check out, the express service via in room TV worked fine.
Casino was lucky for us, no problems getting drinks. Tip......expect to pay a lot for drinks at the bar. $30 for 3 gin and tonics; from the waitresses in the casino, say $6, do the math!
Took breakfast most mornings in the cafe st louis, good food, good service. Alternatives were the buffett or the various coffee shops or creperie.
The thing we like about Paris is that it's well sited on the strip , spend a few days mooching up the strip, the next, down the strip. The link to Ballys next door is convenient for the monorail link.
Were in Vegas to experience the New Year festivities. Have experienced 'large' events in London and Edinburgh and have to say that Vegas was on a par, fantastic fireworks and really nice, happy, even if inebriated partygoers. Had dinner at Smith and Wolensky's on New Years eve, they serve steak to end all arguments, highly recommended. Have eaten before at the steakhouse in Paris which was awesome as well.
The only problem we had was trying to get back into Paris on New Years Eve. There was no advance notification given to guests that there would be access restrictions that evening (other hotels, like Bellagio had notices everywhere). As a result, there was an unholy crush to try and get back in and there was only one access through the barriers operating; at one point, mounted police came through the crowd to ease things. Security weren't allowing famillies and children over the barriers even when they were able to produce room keys.
I guess it's all part of the experience but maybe next time, the management could do to revisit its' planning.
Anyhow, that won't detract too much from what was overall, a really enjoyable stay.
Will undoubtedly be back in Vegas and would thoroughly recommend any one to stay here, good price, good location, great hotel. We'll stay again.
