Though I've stayed at Bally's in the past (in my 15 years of going - more often the Flamingo which is also past its prime), I don't think I'll return again.
Thanks to the helpful TA posts, I asked for North Tower as I wasn't getting an old room again! Of course, on a Friday afternoon ALL the king rooms in the N. Tower were booked (how amazing this could happen so early in a busy weekend). We were offered a queen which we were told was a section of a suite. Okay, we took it not-too-happily. What they never mentioned is that is was the parlor of the suite and the bed was a murphy bed. Yes, someone else in TA mentioned they had this and it was comfy. The bed was okay if your husband never tossed or turned. We survived, but I was annoyed that they never mentioned the murphy bed at check-in. The rest of the room was great with a dining room table taking up a lot of space, sofa bed, cushy chairs, desk, separate dressing area desk and good-sized bathroom. All was clean. It was a non-smoking floor, but for that to happen you have to have neighbors who obey the rules and we did not. Why do people go out into the hall to smoke in a non-smoking floor?? Do they not want to stink up their room??? Or just not give away which room they are in???
Service throughout the hotel was only mediocre. We asked one day at 8:30am to have our room done by 2pm and that didn't happen. When we called to complain, they insisted our do not disturb sign was on the door when they came by several times. The sign was off the door since 8:30am and they were lying (or going to the wrong room several times.)
The casino was the biggest disappointment - plenty of empty $25 tables, but one $10 table per game (packed) and 2 or three $15 tables also packed. I don't know why everyone wanted to be there since the ventilation is awful (we didn't even see people smoking and we couldn't breathe). We went to several other casinos and could sit right next to a smoker because the vent was so good (newer hotels, of course).
Good news was it was easy to get to Paris and gamble there when we weren't out and about.
I'm sure my disappointment stems from having first been at Mandalay Bay on business for two nights before going to Bally's. I do this biz trip every year and I think I'd better just cough up the bucks to stay somewhere comparable to MB, but in center strip. I confess I'm a picky traveler, so if you are more laid back about your accommodations, Bally's can certainly work for you.
