I have stayed at luxor, the orleans, the venetian and one other hotel in whose name i don't recall in vegas. this was by far the worst.
first of all, when you walk in there is the casino that is so smoke filled and combined with what seemed like some chemical air freshiner or sanitizer. it made me dizzy and my eyes were blurry for several hours the next day! really wierd. as we came down the escalators from the parking lot, there was a man and woman that looked kind of like homeless people, sitting on the stairs, holding a squalling new born baby! why would you bring a newborn into such a smoke filled place is beyond me.
the whole atmosphere of the casino was very ghetto/hood. with some actual scary looking guys that were quite drunk.
next was the check in desk. never in even the worst hotel/motel i have stayed in have i gotten such a rude and cold reception.
she waved us over from the line. did not look up AT ALL, held out her hand and said "id." she did NOT look at us even once during the whole encounter. she proceded to check us into a room. when i asked what room she was giving us she said "word tower" we had paid more for the premium tower but she was downgrading us! now normally when they don't have a room for you in the category you paid for, they upgrade you. i told her that i didn't want the world tower and was too tired and offended to argue about anything when she said all they had left was the handicap room. we said that was fine and took it.
the room: i think probabley motel 6 has a better room. the same chemical smell was here but not as strong. everything was dated. the bedspread was thread-bare. the beds felt like you were sleeping on just the box spring. our view sucked. in the bathroom since it was a handicap room, there was no room for toiletries and it really really needed upgrading. all in all the hotel room experience was not good. i don't reccommend staying here unless you are getting a super cheap price.
the only saving grace was 1. the buffet. we had 2 comp buffet tickets and a pair of free tower tickets. at first i didn't want to go to the buffet because of the bad experience of the rest of the place but my husband said we should check it out. since it was sunday, they were serving sunday brunch and we just had to pay $6 extra with our free tickets. the place was surprisingly clean and well managed. the champagne, much to my surprise was actually good (and they had strawberries with it. as well as mimosas) it wasn't that sour tasting stuff some cheapo places served with brunch. they had an omlette making station that made very good made to order omlettes. so i had an omlette with croissant and crablegs with champagne.
after that we went up 106 floors with our complimentary tower passes and had a great view of las vegas. they had three rides that we didn't try but one hangs you off the side of the building! it looked terrifying. we sat one floor under it and drank some coffee (they had a starbucks up there too.)
all in all the buffet and the trip up the tower was the only saving grace for the stratosphere. (sorry i wrote so much)
