The Westin is trying hard to be a business traveler's hotel and indeed the clientele reflected that. The gambling area is small, understated, has only a few slot machines and is often empty. The hotel's decor is dark, simple and along the understated, yet elegant lines of other Westins. At $60/night on Priceline this hotel is hard to beat.

We read the other reviews before checking in so asked for a low floor (minimize elevator issues), but above the 3rd (vibrating problem). Take note - floors 4 and 5 are pet-friendly so if you're a light sleeper you may want to avoid them. The room was nicely appointed with a new bathroom, carpeting and couple of minimalist chairs. Indeed, all the rooms on the 8th floor looked recently renovated, as did the carpet and walls in the corridor.

The gym is free and great. The pool is adequate, but not a "scene" as with most other Casino hotels in vegas. Then again, there was no problem in securing chaise-lounges.

The breakfast buffet didn't seem like such a deal, but the a la carte items worked well and, for $34 for 2, are good value for Vegas.

All in all a good stay at a decent hotel. Would stay here again.

We stayed at The Westin with our two children at a low rate booked through an internet hotel site. The value we received was excellent. The hotel is in walking distance to the strip. The room was ok - although some stains were on the carpet. We liked the hotel's policy to provide bottles of water free of charge. Also parking was free. Internet use at the business center was expensive but that seems to be typical for Las Vegas hotels. The staff was busy but we had no issues with their service.

I checked in at night. They gave me a dirty room, the beds were not clean and there were pillows everywhere. I finally got another room and the bathroom door was broken. The elevators are so slow, they actually were getting stuck with people in them. The fire department had to come to rescue them. It got stuck at least 3 timeas a day. They are so slow so people were over crowding them. That was scary. The staff were very nice and professional. The hotel looks very nice in the lobby but the rooms are the same as a motel 8. They have very small beds. The pool is very small. The store closes at 10:00pm so forget about buying anything if you want to snack after hours. They put an 8 day hold on my credit for what I don't know. They say it releases after check out but it did not. I would never recommend this hotel to any one.

Stayed at the Westin two nights (11-12 July) during a longer trip w/ stays at other hotels. Nice hotel slightly off the strip. Had to cut through Bally's shopping mall (near the monorail entrance) to avoid walking on the street in 100+ degree weather. Nice room on the 16th floor as a gold SPG member. Room was very nice as expected of Westin properties. Staff were attentive and courteous. Casino was quite small - I saw only 1 or 2 active table games going on at any time. And the slot machines were typical - probably not more than 20 people
playing at any time. My wife went down early one morning to get coffee (7 AM) and found only two players at a table and one guy at a slot machine. Though its nice to have the place to yourself, it was a bit too quiet and didn't promote any casino type atmosphere.

Restaurant was very good for lunch - open view of the casino. First Starbucks I have been to where there was hardly any line. Could walk right up to the clerk and make an order. Small souvenir/sundries store having all the usual items.

As others have mentioned the elevator situation is quite a nuisance.
There is a sign posted stating that the hotel was working on it, but it seems like the history of the postings suggests this "work" is an endless process. We tried to time our use of the elevators at non-peak hours.

Otherwise, Westin Casuarina was a nice hotel. Would not call it a casino unless you are used to small casinos like those on a cruise ship. Nice decor, attentive staff, somewhat good location. Building next door towards the strip was taken down, so I'm hoping they put up
another hotel/resort next door to make the walk from the strip a little less initimidating due to crime or heat.

    • Disliked — Casino too small and not on the Strip

“Nice option for Las Vegas hotel stay”

Stayed at the Westin Casuarina Hotel & Spa the last weekend in June 2007, as the start to a week and half vacation through the Southwest. I found the hotel to be a typical Westin (which is to say very nice and luxurious). Arrived at the hotel around 3pm, it was very easy to find and close to the airport. Valet service and luggage assistance was also fast, efficient, and friendly. Check-in was very quick, we were in our room in less than 10 minutes from leaving the car. Lobby was very gracious and relaxing - in typical Westin style (orchids in water vases, white tea signature scent). My room (15th floor) was also typical Westin - modern luxury, nice furniture, perfectly clean, and the wonderful Heavenly Bed and Bath. For me, the location was perfect, away from the crazy traffic and noise of the Strip, but just an easy 10 minute walk from the hotel the the Strip. I was not interested in gambling, so the (relatively) small and quiet casino of the Westin was a bonus, not a negative. The hotel restaurant - Suede offered a very nice evening dinner and breakast option. Starwood Preferred Guests were also invited to an afternoon reception with wines, cheeses, veggie crudite - very nice. The fitness center was wonderful - well stocked, with very nice equipment. Swam in the pool each afternoon, it was a nice facility which included a lovely jacuzzi tub - not as snazzy as some of the huge Las Vegas pools, but nice and not overly crowded. I visted the Hibiscus spa for a body scrub and massage - it was wonderful, relaxing, with a great technician.

All of the mechanical systems and services in the hotel seemed to work well, except the elevators. The slow and few elevators weren't a big problem until the end of the weekend- as the crowds increased, they couldn't keep up with demand - when a elevator car would finally come to my floor, it would be full of people just riding the whole way up or down (just to get on the ting, which had the effect of slowing the system down even further). The elevators were a real mess at check-out on Sunday - most people (including me) resorted to taking the steps down 15 floors - thank goodness I had left the luggage under the care of a helpful bellman (who really earned his salary and tip that day).

Other than the elevator issue (again, only a problem at the peak times), I really enjoyed all aspects of my stay at the Westin - it offered respite from the typical Vegas hotel - I'd have no problem in returning there for future stays.
