Stayed at the Westin Casuarina Hotel & Spa the last weekend in June 2007, as the start to a week and half vacation through the Southwest. I found the hotel to be a typical Westin (which is to say very nice and luxurious). Arrived at the hotel around 3pm, it was very easy to find and close to the airport. Valet service and luggage assistance was also fast, efficient, and friendly. Check-in was very quick, we were in our room in less than 10 minutes from leaving the car. Lobby was very gracious and relaxing - in typical Westin style (orchids in water vases, white tea signature scent). My room (15th floor) was also typical Westin - modern luxury, nice furniture, perfectly clean, and the wonderful Heavenly Bed and Bath. For me, the location was perfect, away from the crazy traffic and noise of the Strip, but just an easy 10 minute walk from the hotel the the Strip. I was not interested in gambling, so the (relatively) small and quiet casino of the Westin was a bonus, not a negative. The hotel restaurant - Suede offered a very nice evening dinner and breakast option. Starwood Preferred Guests were also invited to an afternoon reception with wines, cheeses, veggie crudite - very nice. The fitness center was wonderful - well stocked, with very nice equipment. Swam in the pool each afternoon, it was a nice facility which included a lovely jacuzzi tub - not as snazzy as some of the huge Las Vegas pools, but nice and not overly crowded. I visted the Hibiscus spa for a body scrub and massage - it was wonderful, relaxing, with a great technician.
All of the mechanical systems and services in the hotel seemed to work well, except the elevators. The slow and few elevators weren't a big problem until the end of the weekend- as the crowds increased, they couldn't keep up with demand - when a elevator car would finally come to my floor, it would be full of people just riding the whole way up or down (just to get on the ting, which had the effect of slowing the system down even further). The elevators were a real mess at check-out on Sunday - most people (including me) resorted to taking the steps down 15 floors - thank goodness I had left the luggage under the care of a helpful bellman (who really earned his salary and tip that day).
Other than the elevator issue (again, only a problem at the peak times), I really enjoyed all aspects of my stay at the Westin - it offered respite from the typical Vegas hotel - I'd have no problem in returning there for future stays.
