This is my second week-long stay here at the Westin Casuarina, both for a conference at work. The hotel has a nice atmosphere, especially being non-smoking (except for the casino), and it is nice to not have to walk through a huge casino floor to get to the rooms. It's just a short walk down Flamingo to the strip, and the location is quite convenient.

However, there are a few elements on the edges of the hotel that need refreshing - little things in the room. Some more major concerns are that my colleague's room (next door) had an issue where the door did not self-close - you had to pull it shut. She called to see if it could be fixed each day, and they'd said they'd come do that. It's not the biggest issue, except that housekeeping left the door open each day. That's a bit discomforting, and while there were no issues, she was understandably upset.

The other issue is that this is my second stay here (about a year since my first), and the "elevator situation" is still an issue. There are two concurrent elevator control systems; on each floor, some elevators are controlled by one button, some by another. The algorithm used by one controller is really bad, the newer one isn't so bad, but here's the issue - in order to get good service, you need to hit both buttons on each floor. This means that two elevators stop on each floor passengers request service. This halves the efficiency, and leads to even longer wait times.

The sign in the lobby from last year is still there, with no noticeable improvement.

"In our continuous efforts toward achieving perfection, our elevators will be undergoing technical upgrades during your visit. While this may cause some inconveniences as well as slightly longer wait times for your "vertical transportation" needs, we hope you can forgive us as it will ultimately ensure improved service for your future stays."

I was on the twelfth floor, and it was substantially faster to use the stairs than take the elevator. I suggest requesting a low floor to make your life easier. The hotel was unwilling to compensate (even add points) for the inconvenience.

All that griping aside, I would likely recommend this hotel to friends if they would like to avoid the huge casinos, and will probably stay here again (especially since work likes to book this hotel!)

    • Liked — Decent location, but not the huge hustle-bustle of the huge Casino Hotels on the strip
    • Disliked — Elevator service was really poor

“Great hotel, Excellent Service”

Stayed at Westin April 22-27. Excellent service. it is a smaller hotel just minutes from strip. Attention to detail is consistent.
Starbucks coffee in room, robes in room. Free bottled water in room. Evening turndown service. Umbrellas at poolside. Showers by poolside have hot and cold water. Pool is actually open till 2Am. Unheard of in the other hotels. From entrance of hotel to strip is about the same time you would spend getting from the entrance of the bigger hotels to your room. NO Kidding. Nearby convenience store has deli and food inexpensive. It is convient to everything. Approximately $12 to airport from hotel. Near Bally's and Bellagio. I've stayed at Venetian and Hilton.
The service at the Westin was way superior. I think because its smaller you can get personal attention. I highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed here @ $139/night. It is a decent value if you pay $149/night or under. Westins in SF/LA/San Diego rarely go under $ 225/night and the rooms are very similar. Nice staff.

“Nice, Quiet and a bit run down”

The Westin Casuarina Hotel & Spa

Stayed there two nights in April with hubby. Got a good rate via priceline.
Our room was on the 10th floor all the way at the end. Checkin was fairly fast. BUT - got stuck on the elevator. Apparently they were having problems with the elevators. Once in the room - we had a nice view. The room was well equipped and nice in size. No robes - so called for them. Arrived quite fast. Closet doorknob was broken - called maintenance. Arrived fairly quick. By the time I took my shower - I saw that the "heavenly shower" was broken too - but I was too tired to have them come fix it.
The heavenly beds and the quiet atmosphere at a good rate would bring me there again - but I do hope they activate thir maintenance.

Compared to the megahotels in Vegas, the Westin was a nice change of pace.

We arrived an hour earlier than check-in (3 pm. vs. 4 pm], but front desk attendant was courteous enough to book a high floor facing the Strip for us. Killed time at the Bally's buffet.

Checked-in at 4. Lobby had a wonderful signature White Tea scent. Small casino in the lobby. Starbucks also present in the lobby.

Room was clean, decent size, and smelled nice. The room didn't get really cold despite turning the temp. down to 60, so we had hotel technicians come check it out. They came within 10 minutes, and changed a really dirty air filter. Fast and efficient; room was finally getting cold. (it was a steady 91 deg. during our Easter weekend visit).

Bed was comfy, but not the pillowy, cloud-like Heavenly Beds/Sweet Sleeper beds I've slept in from Sheraton San Diego and Westin Boston. It was just a normal king mattress.

Bathroom was a nice size; not small at all. Curved shower bar + dual showerheads = bliss. The water pressure was superb for us.

Spa was good; front desk had a 20% off discount for all spa services.

Amenities galore in the bathroom; as you can see in the pics. Starbucks coffee as well and free bottled water added a nice touch.

Called for a 2nd bathrobe; came within 10 min.

Didn't hear a peep from the outside noise or neighbors.

Pool was on the small size, but at least the hotel had one, right?

Very convenient gas station + convenience store next door; 15 steps away from all your cheap goods.

Location is pretty good; highway is exactly 5 min. away; albeit with congestion & traffic lights, it'll be 15 min.

Parking lot view directly across the street, but the Strip views make up for it. Ask for the southwest view upon check-in.

Did not use internet, business center or room-service.

Otherwise, a very pleasant stay. Definitely the perfect alternative to the super-high traffic megahotels nearby.
