“Not Quite Westin Standards”

The Westin Casuarina Hotel & Spa

Sep 1, 2008

Hotel service needs a little work. Hallways were freezing. Sink and bathtub would not drain. We were charged $10 per day for a mysterious "hotel services fee" when we really received no hotel service at all. There are no vending machines on ANY floor. You have to go to the lobby and cross the entire casino to get something as simple as a soda. A very long walk for a drink or snack.

On the upside, the rooms were lovely, the beds truly were heavenly, the hotel was off strip so it was very quiet and everything was in order when we arrived.

“Heavenly Room”

The Westin Casuarina Hotel & Spa

Aug 27, 2008

Got it up through Priceline. We really loved the room, especially the kingsize heavenly bed was wonderful. Even tough we booked through priceline, we had a nice view of the strip. It's just about a 1/4 mile away from the strip. You can get across the street and walk to the strip through Bally's Casino. Swimming pool is a little bit tiny, and so is the casino. Actually I liked the casino, because it is not very busy. Cocktail girls are very aware around there, and I managed to get myself a reasonable win in there.

Unfortunately we stayed at the Westin Casuarina Las Vegas from 04/25/08 through 04/30/08, and had a horrible experience which is still bothering me and my husband. The biggest issue has to be with the housekeeping staff and their performance:

1) When we checked in we had no telephones connected, they were in the dresser drawers and we had to crawl under the desk and the nightstand to connect them ourselves,

2) They failed to fully stock the room each day,

3) The second day we noticed that when we came back to the room there were two fresh drops of blood on the comforter, so we called Housekeeping and requested they change the comforter. It took us six telephone calls and a visit to the front desk to get someone to come change the comforter almost an hour after we first called. Additionally, when the “Housekeeping Supervisor” came to see what the problem was, she insulted me by asking my husband in Spanish (I speak English), if “she was sick”; in other words did I have my menstrual cycle. First, there were two drops of blood, if that was the case then there would have been more blood. Second, the “Housekeeping Supervisor” should have spoken to us in English as we both speak English. Third, we would have told them “we had an accident”, but obviously since we were out hiking, I was not having my menstrual cycle, the blood was not there when we went out, and there was a very small amount of blood that was not the case.

Additionally, the exhaust system in the Casino area is inadequate, the swimming pool was not very clean, and the room renovations were a nuisance.

I’ve stayed at the Westin in Savannah, GA, and the Westin in Los Angeles, and have had no complaints about there service or the accommodations and would gladly return to either of those facilities again; however, the Westin Casuarina Las Vegas will be receiving very negative reviews from me and my husband on the travel websites.

Regretfully,

Kathy

“Taken Care of BEFORE we arrived!! Love Starwood properties!”

We have an upcoming stay at the Westin for the week of Labor Day. After reading some of the reviews, I was nervous about our stay. We are Starwood members and always try to stay at an SPG property. We particularly love Westin as they were the first hotels that seemed to really focus on the comfort of the beds!!

I contacted the hotel and spoke with Amanda, the manager on duty today. I expressed my concerns becuz of what I read on Trip Advisor. She went ahead and assigned our room with the view and amenities we wanted (which NO other Vegas hotel would do) and assured me she would be there the day we checked in and everything would be taken care of. If for some reason we weren't happy, she said contact her directly.
Not sure about others experience with this property. I know that when hotels are booked on 3rd party sites you don't always get the svc. that you would if you deal with hotel directly.
Needless to say, I am not worried at all and am really looking forward to our 1st Vegas trip.
I am also happy that this hotel is not a big gaming hotel as it will make for a nice quiet place to return to at the end of the evening. This may not be for others but it's definitely a plus for me!
....still a faithful Starwood Preferred Guest!

“Not up to Westin Standards”

The Westin Casuarina Hotel & Spa

Expected better from a Westin. My room was not ready upon arrival and I was downgrading with the promise of points that I had to pursue to eventually get. Elevators were out of order causing long waits to get up and down. Location is a long walk in the heat by day or desolation by night to get to the strip despite being just one block away (very big block). On the plus side the room was big and clean, The small casino is cozy and welcoming. The roof top pool area is small but enjoyable.
