“Okay, But Overpriced”

The Westin Casuarina Hotel & Spa

I was very afraid of staying here once I read the spotty reviews. I had won two nights in a raffle and then paid for a 3rd. Honestly we had no real problems, our contact with the staff was minimal, we didn't hit the pool, or the restaurant, or bar, but my husband did enjoy the workout room at least. The only real issue was it took me a week to book the room because the executive assistant was a total ditz and I had to follow up with her several times to make sure she did her job (and of course each time she had not). Maybe because I expected the worst, I'm not as upset about our stay.

I think maybe our experience was better because we were on a preferred floor, I'm sure staying on a pet floor isn't fun if you don't have pets. The room wasn't too small, bed was good, and the bathroom a good size despite lack of outlets to plug anything in. The view of the parking lot was kind of lame, but I knew that would probably happen. That hardcore cleaner smell was there at first but it faded quickly.

I was only irritated by two things: loud chatty housekeeping who start at 8am and won't stop talking! Also those taxes and fees that everyone has been talking about. I was charged all of that stuff on comped nights too. I was prepared for it, but it still is lame they can't just include it in the room rate as to not [-] off customers as they check out.

Overall I think the rooms are way overpriced for what you get. I've stayed at motels that were just as nice (minus the good minimal decor) for less than half of the rate. If you are going to pay $200 a night essentially, just go over to a funner hotel with a real casino and bar.

“Solid stay at the Westin”

The Westin Casuarina Hotel & Spa

We stayed here from Feb 22-24 2008 and had a very good stay overall. 1st, the elevator issue must have been fixed because there are 6 elevators and they were all working fine. We stayed on the top (17th) floor and didn't have a problem at all going up and down.

Second, although the property is hardly new, it is well maintained and I didn't find any major issues with wear or staining of the carpets, furniture or bed. We saw a few dogs but I never found it to be a problem, no fur, stains or smells as far as I could tell.

The one concern from the reviews that turned out to be true is that the cooling was very poor. The weather was not exactly scorching, partly cloudy and in the 60s, but the room warmed up during the day (even though we kept the drapes closed) and the anemic air conditioning never got the room below 73 deg in the morning, or 77 in the day. It was never that uncomfortable, but what if it was hotter outside or sunnier? I don't know if that's a problem on the top floor only, since heat rises, but still.

I found the location to be fine. It's only a 10 min walk to the strip, and there are pedestrian bridges that allow you to walk right into the shops at the Bellagio. It was about $7-10 to take a cab to other hotels. As a bonus, it was much quieter than at the larger resorts. I've found the drunken return of guests to their rooms until 3am or so to be disruptive to my sleep in the past, but this hotel was much better. Also, although the pool is nothing special, and not especially warm, we didn't have to battle it out with the drunken hordes like our last stay at Mandalay, when by 2pm folks were so trashed they were having a beer can fight across the lazy river. And the hot tub was actually hot with good jets. So for a someone with a 5 y/o I found it to be more family friendly. There was also no charge for the rollaway bed for my daughter to sleep on, or for the fridge where I kept her milk for her cereal, and her ice cream. There was a $12 charge for wireless internet.

Overall I thought the service was very good. Room service arrived quickly, about 10-15 min. Folks were well trained and polite. I did ask for a remote (there was only one for the 2 TVs) but it never showed. That was my only complaint. Maid service was excellent.

We stayed in a 1BR suite, which was roomy and had good quality furntiure. Decorating was on the spare side but tasteful. It cose $375 a night, a good deal for a suite on the weekend.

I would recommend this for a family that doesn't want a frat house atmosphere, instead it's more of a quiet retreat.

I completed a 6 night stay at the Westin Casuarina Hotel in Las Vegas. While there were many features that were attractive to me during the stay, I must say my overall Westin experience was disappointing for 3 main factors:

1. 17 floors and only 2 (sometimes 1) working elevator. The hotel was sold out, so the lines and wait for a elevator were definately unreasonable.

2. Hotel had problems keeping my room (Room 1532) cool. The unit in my room would shut down and the temo in my room would exceeded 80 degrees from time to time, especially in the middle of the night.

3. $12.99 per day for internet use in 2007 is unheard of. Even Motel 6 has free wireless. I am a business traveler, and I pay for my own expenses. I have never stayed at a Westin property and payed for internet access. I could not afford to shell out over $80 for the week to check my email and download my orders. This charge was absurd.

This experience has really made me rethink using Starwood properties for my future travel plans.

I come to Vegas on business regularly and I have stayed at a number of Hotels in Vegas including Mirage, Mandalay Bay, The Palms, and Green Valley Ranch to name a few. For business travel this is a great hotel, I would not stay here for a big party weekend if you are going to hang out by the pool all day. The resturaunt is great for breakfast or they have a Starbucks in the hotel too! I have always been impressed with the staff. When you check in they are very nice and they actually come out from behind the desk after you check in to hand you your keys and review your room location (Nice touch). I have used their meeting rooms and they are well appointed and the food was very good. It has a small casino which is nice for scratching the gambling itch if you desire. Our cocktail waitress Perry was handing out Lucky Shots to the gamblers (no charge). But it is limited in the type of games available to play. I like that I can park my car close to the hotel and not walk across a massive parking lot or casino floor to get to my room. I have stayed here for the last 2 years for a total of 6 different visits. Every time has been great.

We booked one room at the Westin for two nights. It is a pet friendly hotel a we love to travel with our dog.

At the time of our check in , we had to wait 45 minutes in the lobby ,because we were told that none of the rooms on "the pet floor" were ready. Check in is at 4pm.
We asked for the pet bed, ( soft oval lounger, the dog likes it and we are glad that we don't have to carry our own from home) we were told it will be in our room when we get there.
When we arrived in to our room we didn't find what we asked for.... on the other hand we found a strong odor, (don't know what it was) wet carpet, trash on one of the night stands.(not even speaking of the ridiculous amount of dust that never gets cleaned in the opening next to the wall of the night stand)
We called the front desk and they offered to move us to another room ....and so we did. I again asked for the pet bed and was told that they will bring it to us right away.
Our second room .....wow I can't even tell you, because I don't want to go through all of that again! But only two things I have to write here.... They must be using some strong chemicals ,because we both had a hard time breathing.
Two hours later we still didn't get the bed for our dog so I called and asked about it... was told that the rules of the hotel changed and that there is a $250 deposit now. It is to addition to the actual pet deposit which we already paid. No one told us that when we made the reservation or at the check in.

There is no air vent in the bathroom.

We have received bad customer service from Mia who was the manager on duty that evening. She truly could not care less.

The pet area- needs serious attention!

Also visited the spa - staff was very nice.

We will never stay at this Westin location again.
