I just got back from a spur of the moment trip out to Vegas and I stayed at Harrah's. We got a great price on a package through US Airways and couldn't have asked for much more for the price. We arrived in Vegas after midnight and we had to wait in the check in line at Harrahs for about 30 minutes before getting our room keys. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the hotel check in at the airport because it was too late and they had closed. Had no problems checking in and was given a room in the Carnival Tower like we requested.
The room itself was good, considering what we had paid for it. I had stayed at the Flammingo a few months earlier and I would say that room was better than the one at Harrah's. The beds were a little uncomfortable (firm) and the pillows seemed to be pretty old. The bathroom was decent sized and clean, no mildew smell. The ring around the shower head was loose and needed to be reattached to the tile but other than that the shower was fine. Not much water pressure in the sink and the water smelled like sulfer so drinking it was an act of desperation. No safe in the room, which I've seen some people complain about before, but it didn't bother us. Use common sense and if you have anything that needs to be in a safe there are safety deposit boxes in the lobby of the hotel. Coffee make worked great, as did the TV.
The best part about starying at Harrah's was the location. Most of my trips to Vegas, I've stayed furhter south on the strip and it was nice to get a change. I've done all the sight seeing in Vegas, so walking up and down the strip doesn't appeal too much anymore. I liked that I had some casino's around me that I hadn't spent a lot of time at in the past. Like, I said the location is definatly the highlight of this resort.
We didn't make it to the pool, but we could see it from our room. It got pretty busy during the day and it didn't look too big from where we were at. I've seen better pools in Vegas, but I've also seen worse.
We ate breakfast one morning at the Flavors buffett and it was great! I would recommend it to anyone and it wasn't terrribly expensive either. The food was high quality and the selection was huge.
The only issue I had was we requested a late check out because our flight didn't leave until midnight and the best they could do was noon. Not a big deal, but it would have been nice to have access to our room for the afternoon so we could have used the pool and had a place to shower and change before we left.
I would recommend Harrah's to the budget traveler who isn't looking for high class ammenities. If you want that pay a little extra and you'll find it. THe location is great and you can't beat the price!
