Centrally-located hotel, live entertainment outside its doors, nice service...Harrah's definitely gave us a nice stay during one of our many trips to Vegas.
We went to Harrah's for the Thanksgiving weekend; we arrived on Friday and left on Sunday. I knew in advance from reading prior reviews to ask for a room in the Carnaval tower which is supposed to be the nicer, renovated section of the hotel. I was kind of worried that we wouldn't have our choice seeing as we were arriving on Friday and figured that the hotel would be packed from Thursday arrivals but I got my request and found the people at the front desk to be very nice and pleasant.
The Carnaval tower is slightly farther away from the casino than the Mardi Gras tower but still very accessible. We were on the 18th floor at the very end of what seemed like a never-ending hall but it wasn't a huge bother, we're still young enough to not complain much about a long walk.
The room, although a little small was very comfortable and had very nice decor. We didn't have a view of anything other than the parking structure but we only used our room for breaks and sleeping so it definitely was not a big deal.
Maybe because we were at the end of the hall and at the very back of the hotel but we didn't hear any noise from the casino at all. In fact, our room was very quiet. The only noise we did get was from our neighbors in their room. Our room had an adjoining door but we only could hear them once during our stay which was in the morning so it wasn't a big deal.
As for the room it was nicely decorated and had comfortable beds and sheets. The room had the basic amenities; blow dryer, mini bar, entertainment center...the room has internet connection but at an extra charge. Also, the mini bar is sensored so make sure you don't take anything out unless you really want it otherwise, expect to see a few charges on your bill.
Parking at Harrah's was very convenient and located at the back of the hotel and was very easy to find. When coming from the parking garage, there was a walkway leading directly to Imperial Palace as well. The hotel is also very easy to navigate. I always found every place I wanted to go very easy to find.
The only place we dined at in Harrah's was the Flavors buffet and I can't say it enough, but I think this has been the BEST buffet I have eaten at in Vegas so far. They have a wide selection which ranges from seafood to mexican to asian and the list goes on. They also had for dessert, italian sorbet and cotton candy which was a pleasant surprise; nothing special about cotton candy, its just the first time I've seen it offered in a buffet.
We also watched the magician show with Mac King. Pretty good and funny. Semi-family friendly. There were lots of kids there but he kept pulling things out of his fly which is why I'm calling it semi-family friendly.
The location of Harrah's has to be the biggest perk of staying at this hotel. With the Venetian, Imperial Palace and Flamingo as neighbors and Caesar's Palace, the Forum and the Mirage across the street, there's plenty to do and see outside your front door.
Also, it appears that if you're a Total Rewards member/player, you get a lot of perks at Harrah's. My father-in-law is a platinum member and he got some benefits such as: exclusive entrance to the buffet, comped room night and buffets for the whole family, a room very close to the elevator, etc... So if you have a lot of points built up on your card, they can really pay off.
Harrah's also has an outdoor bar with live entertainment in the evenings which was fun for our group because there were plenty of 20 and 30 somethings there. That was probably the biggest surprise for me about Harrah's. I had heard the place was a party hotel but the crowd mostly was in the 40's and older crowd. I guess I was kind of expecting a younger crowd. Maybe it was the time of year we went, I don't know.
But overall, Harrah's was great and if the price is right (we paid $140/ night for this stay), I will stay there again.
