Stayed at Luxor for a quick birthday weekend, Saturday-Monday. Nice place, however starting to show its age.
Check in went smoothly, even though there was quite a line. Asked for an upper floor room with a view- got a view of the pool, which we liked. Forgot to ask for king bed and got 2 doubles- not a big deal to us, we used one bed to spread out all of our stuff. Room was mostly clean- curtains had some strange stain on them, and the plug was cut off of one lamp, but the bathroom was very clean and the beds were comfortable. Really liked the shower as opposed to a tub/shower- the shower had nice tile walls and you don't have to climb over the tub wall to get in.
Casino is nice, but kind of confusing to find your way around. I usually have an excellent sense of direction but I kept getting lost here. Seemed hard to snag a cocktail waitress, but it was Saturday and they were busy.
Pool was nice- not over crowded- there were lots of chairs available. Pool waitresses seemed to be on top of things. Drinks were overpriced but the banana daquiri thing with a shot of Baileys was excellent.
Shopping was OK- lots of "egyptian artifact" type stores, but I suppose that is to be expected at Luxor.
One thing that was very much a pain was the location. To get anywhere, you just about have to go through the mess called Excalibur. If you take the tram to Ex, it dumps you off on one side and you have to crawl through the casino to get out. On the way back, you have to get on the tram at Ex and take it to Mandalay Bay, then get off and get on the other tram to get to Luxor. Kind of a big pain to get around. Usually we stay mid-strip (Harrah's, Flamingo, TI), so we're used to walking out of the casino and being on our way.
If we got a really good deal, I'd stay here again, but if prices are the same down the strip at, say Ballys or Flamingo, I'd go for that next time.
