Stayed at the Luxor in August 2005 while on honeymoon. We found the hotel amazing, from the sheer size of it to the quality of the rooms, food, staff etc. We ate in every restaraunt there and could not find fault in any of them. The best had to be breakfast in Pharoh's Feast where we can't say enough about one waitress, Sandy who was superb. The food and service was excellent.
We stayed in a Pyramid room which was overlooking the pool (this allowed us to see the wonderful sunset over the mountains every evening!). The room was large, clean and comfortable. The only problem we had was from some very noisy guests in the room next door to us for 3 out of the 7 nights we stayed. They seemed to sleep all day and then spend all night shouting and hollering in their room (why go to Vegas and stay in your room all of the time????). It was nothing some Virgin Airlines earplugs couldn't solve!
We advise anyone who is gambling in the casino to sign up to the ONE Club to get your points and your "comps". It can be used in the Excalibur as well.
A fantastic hotel even if we did get lost on many occasions, take with you comfy shoes (and a good sense of direction) as Vegas hotels are HUGE!!!!

The rooms and facilities were fine but they managed to food poison 3 out 4 people in our party via their Mexican restaurant. They did very very little to help not even a bottle of water. No apology no refund for the meal and worst of all the check in staff just laughed at us.

We booked a room with free upgrade to the tower for a family with small children (one is a baby).
Not only we didn't get the upgrade (which I didn't really care), the room we got was just above the night club. The music was so load the floor was shaking...
What the lady that gave us the room was thinking??? Unbelievable!!!
Oh, there was no bath tab.

We had a long trip so we waited for the morning to change the room (big mistake) and they moved us to the other side of the hotel.

The rooms are spacious but everything was looked old and the air conditioned made noises like it's going to die.

On the positive side, when you go out of the room... the pool is great, a lot of dining options.

I would never stay in this hotel again (but will visit it).

We (7 men 40+) have just returned from a 5 night stay in the Luxor Hotel.
We flew with Virgin Direct from Gatwick and although long 9 & 1/2 hours, the journey was made pleasent by the Virgin staff. The food & service was extremely good and Virgin still set the standards. First impressions -airport experience was layed back but organised.
Hotel- stayed in the pyramid rooms 14th floor. Excellent Hotel, our first time and fruit machines everywhere. Buffet style restaurant served very good food and had quite a good choice. Ate at the steak house one evening and although excellent food it was a little expensive. Advise stick to max 5 in your party as 18% gratuity added for larger groups.
Drinks seem to be expensive in all the major Hotels especially the Bellagio. We saw a show at the Imperial Palace Hotel and this was showing signs of age. We did eat there and were relieved we wern't staying there. Getting down the strip you can use the 'Deuce' Bus. That is an experience in itself (can take an hour to get to downtown Las Vegas!) They don't exactly rush! But it is only 5 dollars for 24 hour use so handy as we walked in 90deg far too much. The must see's are the Venetian & New York ditto.
Lively bars in the New York particularly. Harrah's cocktail bar provided good entertainment but to get the best chance of seeing all the attractions is pacing yourself. We found gambling on the tables more rewarding after 1.00am. So late evening meals. The out of town 'Mall' is worth a quick visit for cheap designer clothes. Anyway try the copter to Grand Canyon via Hoover Dam. $270 dollars but unmissable. Swimming pools all seem to be made shallow! Don't know why as there are no kids there to speak of. There is little evidence of any trouble as everyone seems polite & very law abiding and of course loud.
Down town worth a trip but bars & restaurants are few just a 'buzzy' place to be.
Good Advice -if you suddenly have a mountain of chips in front of you CASH IN!

My husband and I haven't been to the luxor in about 8 years. Last time we were there, we had a nice room with a suite attached. It was clean and had nice furnishing, etc. I thought we would go there again...earlier in the week, we were at the Hilton Holiday Club, which BTW was very nice, and I thought that the Luxor would be an upgrade. Boy was I wrong!!! We checked in on a Saturday. Got to the Hotel early because we were just down the street. Told check in started at 12pm. Check in started at 11am, and then lines got so long that it was like a 45 minute wait....oh but that was just the beginning of our "fun". It was a beautiful day, and we wanted to check out the pool. We got into our room. It was absoultely gross!! You almost didn't want to walk barefoot in the room because you weren't sure what was still on the carpet. There was hardly any lighting. The walls looked dirty, the bathroom was in some serious need of repair (cracked toliet seat) and the bathroom floors look nasty. Oh and 2 towels, are you kidding? It was about 90 in our room. I called the front desk and she asked if our shades were closed (we were in the pyramid) I told her the shades were closed. They said they would send someone up to look at the air. If they did, you wouldn't know cause it never got any cooler in our room. Oh and no safe's in the room. You are in a casino....with money....valuables. The door man was like yeah they can bring you one but it's $20 a day. Are you for real???

Finally, we get down to the pool. What absoulte madness!! Not a chair to be had. So people were pulling chairs out from behind some little building. The lifeguard was yelling not to pull out anymore chairs (what cause she would have to put them back at the end of the day?) We pulled out chairs anyways, tons of people, no where to put a chair. The chairs were black with dirt. So much so that I went to the bathroom and got wetted paper towels to wipe them down. The black water that ran off was nasty. They said they weren't expecting this crowd. Excuse me...wouldn't you know based on reservations and the forecast is for sunny skies for 7 days?? helllllo...

In 8 years this place has gone down hill. They need to get new attitudes and a new custodial staff. I will never stay at the luxor again. It was expensive for what we got. Wish we had stayed at the Hilton for the rest of our vacation.
