Stayed at the Luxor for 7 nights in April, and had a fantastic time. Check in line was real long when we arrived,( but expected that with a Fri pm) but moved very quickly. Was allocated Pyramid room(as kids requested) on 17th floor, overlooking the Mandalay Bay. Quite a walk from our "inclinator" but definately worth the stunning view, especially at sunrise and sunset. Room was alot larger then expected and very clean.Bathroom was huge, shower could have accommadated us all! No probs with noise or smoke from casino.Pharaoh Feast buffet breakfast was pretty good, but preferred buffet at Excalibur, which was pretty conveniant to get to by walk way(by Vegas standards). Great hotel for kids with fantastic arcade and rides. Food court gives kids McD's and us other options! Also booked renewal of wedding vows at Luxor Chapel and have to say they were excellent! Never thought it would be such a emotional experience, they made it very personal and a wonderful day! Had a Jacuzzi Suite on 36 floor for just one night, and that room was fabulous. Jacuzzi in window over looking the strip, two TV's, fridge, separate lounge, and the biggest bathroom i'd ever seen! Really nice pool area, very relaxing and well set out. Kids loved the whole theme hotel experience and say they want to go back. Just a tip for anyone driving here, Strip a nightmare for traffic! We found a back road, part of it was called Frank Sinatra Way, that ran from the Luxor right down to Treaure Island. It runs between the I 15 and the back of the hotels on the Strip. Made it from TI to the Luxor in 10mins, a trip that took 40 mins on the Strip! You can get to any of thehotel parking lotsfrom it and if you can find it, it'll save you loads of time!

We had stayed in the Luxor 3 years ago as part of our honeymoon and really enjoyed the stay. We were looking forward to returning and booked a spa pyramid suite as a treat. All booked and paid for well in advance.

We travel quite a bit and are definately not the type to complaim over nothing ie because the hotel was a pyramid or that the inclinators moved at an angle.

We were expecting a queue at check in but when we got there it did move quite quickly (although we were confronted by the in your face time share pitch ' Can I give you some free gifts' upon entering). Our ordeal began when we reached the check in desk. Scott who was checking us in only asked for our name (we provided our hotel voucher with the full detail) and asked us if we wanted a pyramid or tower room. We both looked at him and then said we had booked a non smoking spa suite. He looked at us and then we showed him the voucher stating this. He looked confused and then got on the phone. Ten minutes later with no update we were getting a bit paniced that something was wrong, my husband asked if there was a problem. Reluctantly he stuttered his way to say that we were only booked in a standard room. The Spa suite had cost us a lot of money in booking so we were really disapointed that there was a problem. Long story short, my husband asked for a supervisor who told us that the travel agent only requested a standard room and they would not give us a Spa suite - regardless of the voucher which said the suite was booked and paid for. They told us to take it up with the travel agent, it was not their problem. Only on pressing the issue VERY firmly did they agree to try and contact the travel agent themselves to resolve the problem. We could not even do this as we were checking in on a Sat and the agent was in the UK. After over an hour my husband agreed to pay the difference to upgrade to a suite if the problem was not sorted our on checkout. It was our only option. We made our way to our room, which of course was a smoking room. We were ready to cry. We rang down and requested another room. Eventually got moved to a non smoking - which we could not belive was at least twice the size of the first spa suite, with a seperate living room and 2 tv's. If anyone is thinking of going for the spa suite do NOT go for one on the very high floors, trust me it will be tiny! Why if there is one price for the spa suite are they different sizes on different floors. Big cheat!

We only had a couple of days to sort the problem out so we had to stay in our room quite a bit making calls and waiting for calls, due to time difference etc. The hotel was little help. It was sorted, as we had already paid the travel agent in full. We had just come from the New York Palace and the difference in customer service was unbelieveable. The little touches are missing from the Luxor, no robes/slippers/minibar etc. Security guards are gone from the lifts as well - little to repel the rowdies.

I would not stay at the Luxor again. Our room was not worth the price, the spa was lovely but just like the other reviews the carpets are worn, the rooms are very poorly lit and they just look tired. From three years ago there is a huge change, there is a lot more of the young rowdy type who party 24/7 in the rooms. Maybe explaining the dirty lifts and graffiti all over. Thsi hotel needs to sit up and take notice or it will go under, compared to other hotels on the stip it is dead.

Food wise the room service we had was very good, but the breakfast buffet was disappointing - its gone downhill too.

If you are going to stay in Las Vegas dont stay at the Luxor and dont pre book your room. As brits we pay a lot more than last minute bookers and americans themselves. There are always rooms available in Vegas - wait until you arrive.

“Luxor was a fine weekend retreat”

Luxor Las Vegas

I stayed @ Luxor for three nights beginning on April 27, 2006. I was in one of the King Tower rooms. I was impressed with the room which was spotless & stylish with both soaking tub & separate shower in the marble bathroom which was generously supplied with towels & toiletries. The furniture was attractive but I would have liked a nice LCD Tv as opposed to the standard 25'' model. My only complaint about the room was that noise from the hallways flowed right in as the doors didn't seem to offer any type of sound proofing. The hotel was first rate, unique & spectalcular. The Egyptian theme worked great & the hotel was connected to Mandalay Bay via a shopping plaza. The Burger Bar in that Plaza has the best Kobe Beef burger in the world! You must have one if you are in Vegas! If there is one drawback about Luxor it's that it's position on the south end of the strip simply isn't as convenient as those properties mid strip if you enjoy walking and visiting other hotels. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

“Cigarette Smoke Galore”

This hotel has good points and bad points the worst of which is the cigarette smoke everywhere with very poor ventilation. We stayed here with our son as well as with two other families and my mother. We had a twin pyramid room which was large with big comfortable beds and a lovely bathroom with a gigantic shower. Everyone elses rooms were the same except for my mother had requested a smoking room and was given a room that reeked so badly of stale smoke that she could hardly bare it and she is a smoker. We could not open the windows because of the design of the hotel so there was no chance of fresh air. By the end of our five days there everyone had at least developed a cough or were suffering headaches, more than likely due to the smoke and lack of water, and two of the kids had developed bad chest infections.
Even though the decor was nice in the rooms they lacked a fridge so we could not store any water which we desperately needed because of the smoke. We had to buy bottled water from the vending machines but the one near our room was very selective about which dollar notes it was going to accept so we had to walk all the way to the other end of the corridor (which is a long way in a four thousand room hotel) just to get a drink of water.
When we arrived to check in there was a huge line and just as we were about to join the line we were approached by a man who was trying to sell us time share. He said to us we may as well come and get signed up for the "tour of another hotel with no obligation" because the line was going to take at least two hours and we would get free show tickets. We politely said no and twenty minutes later we were up in our room. So much for two hours, slimy salesmen. We found it very annoying that every time we walked through the hotel we were accosted by salesmen.
The Pharoahs Buffet was unbelievably big and reasonably priced as well. The steakhouse was outrageously expensive and did not cater for children at all. The kids enjoyed the attractions downstairs but overall I did not find it to be a suitable place to bring children. Would I reccommend this hotel? To some yes to others no. If you are in Vegas to gamble, smoke and party or to get married cheaply and easily than the Luxor would be a good choice as long as being on the end of the strip isn't a problem. I would not reccommend it to families at all because of the smoke, and also because too many of the attractions are for adults only which does not make for a good family holiday.

“Nice Hotel - terrible staff”

Luxor Las Vegas

May 6, 2006
10/18 found this review helpful

Stayed in the hotel at the beginning of May. Room was nice, but they didn't mention when they checked us in that they were replacing windows in the West Tower.

Everyday starting at 9am a team of workmen would start drilling and hammering. It kept up, on and off, till 5pm.

When I called the front desk, I met with either indifference, or in the case of the manager, outright rudeness. They were surprised we'd be sleeping at that time.. It's Vegas... nothing opens till ten and everything stays open late.

The front desk's suggestion after a day of this, was to drag our luggage down to the front desk, wait in line again and they changed rooms, and gave us a SMALLER room.

Terrible, terrible service. From pretty much everyone in the hotel.
