Just returned - found the Luxor prices to be an excellent value. Stayed in West Tower (closer to pool than East). Room was spacious and clean. Very nice bathroom with tub and large shower enclosure (we were told Pyramid rooms have one or the other). We're a high-end Marriott type of family and Luxor matched that. Great pool facilities

Only downside was lack of fridge and coffee in room but am told this is commonplace in LV. Also the location at the southern end of Strip a bit inconvenient if no car (taxis will be a minimum of $10 to get anywhere while all the hotels offer free parking). Attached to Mandalay and Excalibur but that's all

If you like to walk, can make it to NY NY and some others - the monorail now charges and is inconvenient since it's located at back of hotels and requires lengthy walk from a hotel to the station and vice versa (through the casinos of course)

Would consider again if rates more than 50/night cheaper than the Aladdin/Caesars/Paris/Bellagio area

We first visited the Luxor in Vegas in Nov 2003 on a "one off never to be repeated holiday"!! liked it so much went back in Nov 2004!!
On our first visit we were offered the chance of a room in the Towers as they had a bath and they knew the British like their baths. from what I have gathered the rooms are nicer so we opted for the Towers on our second visit. We were totally happy with everything at this hotel, loved the buffets think the breakfast and lunch ones the best deals, also used the Pyramid Cafe and some of the fast food outlets which are so tucked away we didnt find them till our second visit, very handy for a quick snack.
On our second visit we did have a problem when an ice making machine leaked from the corridor and made the carpets wet, we were offered a free dinner and they changed our room immediately, couldnt believe my eyes when i saw the new room, it was fabulous and obviously a very upmarket room way above our financial budget and the absolute highlight of our trip.
We particularly like the location of the Luxor as it is at the quieter end of the strip, meant we walked and bussed a lot but could see some people might prefer to be farther up the Strip.
A tip for British visitors we had 5 days in vegas and then flew to Florida for a week which was quite inexpensive comparing the prices if we had just flown to Vegas and back, involved a lot of flying as didnt have direct flights but it all went like clockwork and had no problems at all.
We really hope we can return to Vegas again soon

This review is one of 3 I hope to leave regarding our stay in LA (Sheraton Anaheim)/Las Vegas (Luxor)/Boston (Fairmont Copley Plaza).

The Luxor is a truly lovely hotel we are so pleased we picked it for our stay.

We arrived quite late in the afternoon and only had to queue behind one person.
The check-in lady was very pleasant, however she did not ask us which room we would like but were given a Pyramid Room. I did hear the chap next to us in the queue and he was given the option of Pyramid or Tower Room and that seemed strange.
Still, when we got to our room which was on the 8th floor it was smashing.
We had a view of the Sphinx and the needle, also in the distance were the mountains which were a beautiful burnt orange when the sun rose and the sun set. Also you can see the strip - I was so pleased.

Yes there were some slight signs that the hotel windows leaked, but we had one bad day of rain and nothing got in so it must only happen when they get a real downpour.

The luxor was a really nicer hotel than some of the others, it always seemed much quieter and more secluded than the others.
Yes, the Bellagio and Venetian are more elegant, but the hotels seemed to be swarming with people, always being crowded and did not have that feel of being that comfortable.
In fact I thought that the Venetian was slight overrated.

We loved Caesars Palalce and would be very tempted to try this hotel next time if the Luxor does not pull us back.
Paris looked nice also.

The worst by far for us was the Tropicana, it smelt and look very dingy.
We saw the Folies-Bergere there which was very very good, but took the option of the show and buffet meal deal.
The meal was truly awful. We also felt ill the next day.
The show was worth the money though.

The only 2 minor complaints I have is that if your room is on a lower floor near Neferittis lounge, it could be a little noisy. We could hear the music on the 8th floor. When we put the airconditioning on though you soon could not hear it.

The second complaint is nothing to do with the hotel - its the lady who drove the 301 bus up and down the strip. I bought a daily ticket and did not know how to put this in the machine. She was extremely rude, make a nasty comment and made me look awful in front of people. However, I ignored this in the end and just thought what an ignorant person she was.
It did spoil my morning but in the end chose to ignore such a pathetic person.
Most of the drivers were very nice, however we did not use it after that day, as it took over an hour and 15 mins to get up the strip due to the traffic, it was quicker to walk.

I would recommend this hotel always. The Casino was good. Food was good and it always felt clean, plus it had the option of not being too crowded.

I cant wait to return. See your soon you Egyptian wonder.

Stayed here the week before Christmas so this might be the reason for the problems we encountered.
First off, the Pyramid rooms are awful with those slanted windows. Much wasted space and they are very difficult to look out. Although we didn't have much to view out of our room except the Sphinx's --- !!! I'm serious!
After settling in and getting a good look at the room we discovered that the bedspreads had seen better days and were becoming a bit threadbare in spots. The Egyptian-style furniture, all custom-made, needed repair-many chips to the veneer. Rest of the room was o.k. Bathroom very clean.
TV is small with limited channels which is typical as they want you on the casino floor not in your room watching TV. There is no fridge. again, this to get you out there buying drinks instead of bringing your own food and drink from outside. Most people don't know that hotels that don't offer fridges will bring you one-free of charge- if you tell them you need it to store your medications. Try it, it works!
Last thing is the reason I will not stay there again. Went out for breakfast and came back at 4PM and the room had not been cleaned! Called housekeeping as i had not seen them on the floor outside the room about to come in. The woman who answered the phone said, snippily, "They are still cleaning, SIR!" At 4PM?!?!???? I feel they did not have enough staff and it can't be for lack of money to run the place. The money I lost that day would have paid one person's salary for the week. No excuse for this. Same thing happened the next day.
Oh, their buffet is to be avoided, too. We have tried them all and decided their's is not worth the money. Paris offers the best breakfast buffet with made-to-order omelettes.

I have stayed at the Stratosphere in Vegas, and had a great time. And the Luxor is right up there also. Both places are not expensive places, where you have to be a high roller to even be able to afford a room. I love Las Vegas, and like staying at different hotels when I go, so I can know which is the best. I am looking forward to seeing the new hotel...the Wynn. Although, it seems like it might be too expensive for me. Anyway, the Luxor is awesome, beautiful rooms, beautiful views. And when you are up on a high floor, and you come out and look down at the casino, it is great, and you can really telll that you're in a pyramid. The two photos I am uploading are of the spinx outside in the back of the hotel, by the tram that goes in between a few hotels there on the strip, and a picture of the inside of the room we stayed in. What a huge window!! 4 out of 5 stars. I will be going back to the Luxor.
