I have stayed at several of the 4-5 star properties on the strip, but have always wanted to stay at the luxor. The opportunity presented itself and I booked a spa suite for a two night stay.
I pulled into valet/baggage help with my wife. There was no help with our baggage or even an offer. The line at check in was roughly 10 minutes. I was told that I could get a king spa suite, but the double spa suite had "better" strip views. I choose the double and was on my way to my room. Be ready to take a hike to your room, but that is typical in almost any casino on the strip. I found the elevator locations to be a bit confusing and showing your room key every time you wanted to go upstairs can be a bit annonying, but that is also typical in many of the hotels on the strip.
The rooms are dark and because I was staying in the pyramid, the windows were very slanted and difficult to see out of. Our view (which was supposed to be a stirp view from the tub) was roughly 80% obstructed, with two huge luxor towers standing in the way. You could see a bit of the excaliber and the rio deeeeep in the distance. This was only if you were directly in front of the window. The rooms were clean, but I found the comforters on the beds to be cheap and thin. The TV in the living room section on the suite was maybe 17' and the TV in the main bedroom was barely 21' I called downstairs to complain about the view and they claimed that was the best they had in the pyramid and all of the rooms were similar unless I wanted a moutain view. There is also no literature on Vegas anywhere in the room, unless it is affiliated with the luxor hotel. I called downstairs for two bottles of wine. I was told that they would be brought up. They never came...?
For $350 a night, I can think of 4-5 other places on the strip I would rather stay than the luxor. It seemed like an aging corporate giant trying to hold on. I tried the luxor and I will not be returning.
