I visited the Luxor in April, and after reading reviews before i went i was thinking that it wouldn't be the best hotel and wasn't really looking forward to my visit. However while it was dark, and the rooms were dark etc it was not half as bad as some reviews would suggest.
We were on the 15th floor, and while it could be a little frustrating waiting for the lifts at times (even though there were 4) we could not hear any noise from our room like many of the reviews had described. The room was very Large with 2 queen size beds and a good size bathroom with a hugh shower, but with no bath. The pool at the hotel was lovley and you could rent comfy beds, or even tents they started of at $20 during the week (for a day) but it was worth it for the water and location of beds! And i must just mention the amazing window cleaner that cleans the pyrimid! madness and if you stay in the pyrimid be careful as it can give you a right shock when it goes past your window!
Be prepared to walk in vegas.......even if you catch the bus it can seem like such a long walk to the bus stop..........hotels are soooooooo large you can walk for miles! but i loved exploring the shops along the strip and looking in all the hotels.
The resturants at the Hotel i didn't think were that great, they had a food court with starbucks and mcdondles and Nathans which unfortunally we ate quite alot as it was cheap and didn't want o pay like $20 to get a buffe and just eat 1 plate full! So if you can get out and search for other resturants, and if you can visit the pepperMill near circus cirus, real american dinner, but is cheap and great food....and fab service 2!
Unless you want to go on the Rides of the Strat tower i wouldn't recomend goingup there as i didn't think it was worth the bus ride as it took ages..........and we did nothing when we got there, and its a bit out of the way. While i was in Vegas i did the Gran Canyon by helicopter, and apart from being delayed for a hour while the changed a part on our helecopter it was fab......one of the best trip's i have done.
On this occasion i came to Vegas for 2 weeks, many people told me this would be too long, for my first time i didn't think it was, and there is plenty to see and do, plus its hot so you can relax by the pool too. But if i was to go back i think i would do a twin center and stay in Vegas for 1 week .
