I was pleasantely surprised with this hotel after reading many of the bad reviews. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and there was a long line to check in. However, the line moved very quickly and the hotel agent was very friendly. We stayed in a spa suite on the 8th floor, which was very spacious and close to the inclinator. The bed felt nice both nights and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. Much of the 2nd floor of the hotel was under construction, but we couldn't hear any of that noice in our room.

The pool was very nice on a warm day, and we managed to find one of the few chairs in the shade. The spa was very relaxing and the attendants were very attentive. We walked to Mandalay Bay to eat at the buffet (which was excellent).

We had no problem checking out because we had a really early flight. I would definately return to this hotel.

Just come back from a week in Orlando and then flew onto Vegas staying at The Luxor. We are frequent visitors to Vegas and our aim is to try a new hotel each time we visit.

This time it was The Luxor. This hotel is at the bottom/top of the Strip - whichever way you want to look at it. But for us doesn't make much difference as we use the monorail and cabs as in June/July and August it's too hot really to do much walking in between hotels. The hotels look close - they are not !

What we liked about the Luxor is the Guaranteed Price Drop. For example, if you book on the main Luxor website (at this point DON'T book the offers) at any point you see the price has dropped (you do have to be responsible for checking the site each week) you can e-mail the luxor and they will drop the price and confirm back to you by e-mail. I did this and from the start of booking saved about $500.00 - quite a lot of money. A lot of cocktails and a good amount if you like the slots or tables - and better in mine or your pocket than the hugely rich owners of the hotel groups over there. Let's face it they get it back off you anyway !

So a few days before you are due to travel then look at the MPV Special Offer - that should save you another $10.00 per night - you then pay for this offer UP FRONT less the deposit you have already paid.

I was lucky in getting one of their REALLY nice, pleasant couldn't do enough for you Reservation Clerks who continually changed the price for me. I won't say her name but she was very professional.

We used the pool every day and VIP loungers - you pay $15.00 per day per person (25$ at weekends) everything goes up at weekends and receive really comfy loungers, towels, ice buckets with water, sometimes fruit on sticks and once we received a fruit cocktail and the most important thing the BIG sunshades which are essential. Tip the girl/boy who looks after you - they work hard for you and have to stand around in the hot sun all day sometimes with no sun umbrella. You do however, have to be there to book one round about 8.00am every morning. To bad if you value a lie in more ! However, there are loads of other sunbeds but very uncomfortable with plastic straps across them AND NO SHADE WHATSOEVER. Some people do manage to get the beds near the other two pools near the toilets but to be honest if you have children you must get some shade for them straight away. Some people however begrudged paying for the sunshades but if you think what people put in the machines and tables over there - suddenly $15 isn't a lot of money for a whole day. But I do see their point - I think it is the Luxor's responsibility to provide adequate shade but there would still be arguments over them so probably this is the easiest way to do it.

We had upgraded our room to one of the Tower Rooms. Very nice room with a side view of the strip.

We had to persist for a strip view and had to wait for an hour or so - but strip views are not guaranteed unless you are paying for the top of the range rooms. Personally I like to look out of the window at night to look a the strip - front desk told me that housekeeping hadn't cleaned a room but in the end they asked their housekeeping manager to sort it for us.

Building work was going on - King Tut's museum was being re-built and carpet was being moved around etc., in the casinos - didn't worry us and to be honest there is always something being knocked down, rebuilt in Vegas.

We did 3 shows - Mamma Mia, Phantom of the Opera and Love (Beatlres).

A little tip here for avid theatre goers - Vegas theatres are not like our local theatres - everyone has a GREAT view. Even the back row has a great view. I was always mad for the front rows - you don't need them in Vegas - in fact for Phantom I would say the front few rows are the worst. You want to sit in about Row R in the stalls as this is where all the actions happens and you are not turning round to see it all.

We took the back row to see Love - had a fantastic view of everything and saved loads of money.

All in all a really great holiday and wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Luxor again - but there are so many others to try !

It's been almost 8 years since the last time I was in Vegas, but before that I would go every year. With only one exception, I always stayed at the Luxor. I remember the hotel as being heavy on the Egyptian theme, King Tut's museum, etc.

There is still the theme going on throughout the hotel, but we learned that they are gradually doing away with all of that, in favor of attracting a younger, hipper crowd. They have closed off the museum and the IMAX attraction, and there is quite a bit of construction going on at the Atrium level (none of which disturbed our stay, we didn't hear a thing!).

The room was ok, nothing fancy but certainly not in disrepair. We had a view of the airport and a tiny bit of the strip (we were fine with it, we weren't going to be there much anyway). The only thing I was really unhappy with was the bed - the mattress was entirely too firm, and the pillows were WAY too soft.

On our last day there were finally walked through the entire hotel to see if we'd missed anything, and we were sad to say that no, we hadn't. There really wasn't anything interesting there unless you like clubs. No good shopping, no good eating.

For the rate we paid we had a good room, but on our next trip we are going to upgrade a little and stay a little closer to the mid-Strip. All of the other hotels (even the Excalibur, which I HATED when I stayed there one time years ago) had more going on than the Luxor did. OH! The one exception (for us) was Criss Angel - we will see his show at the Luxor when we are there next time.

Loved the Luxor! I heeded another reviewer's advice and booked a tower room, rather than a pyramid room and it was great. Loved our view, the serive was very good and the pool was unbelievably great. MORE has a great breakfast buffet as well...so much to choose from and very good food.

My only qualms:
1) Would like more late night dining options, as my body clock was still on East Coast time
2) The "help" at the taxi stand could be a little more attentive

The Luxor is a very unique hotel. The check in line was long but moved very quickly. The rooms were nice, but not anything spectacular. They were very clean. There was a wonderful buffet dinner we ate and the staff at the hotel was friendly and helpful!
I would recommend this hotel for anyone!
