okay, so this was our first time staying at the Luxor.
It is about two grades better than the Excalibur, and feels like an Excalibur, except with an Egyptian theme.
The hotel/casino is much less smoke-filled than Excalibur.
We checked in on a Sunday morning at the end of June, and yes, as others have stated, there are long check in/out lines. However, they had many people working and there was a staff member facilitating the movement through the line, so it wasn't bad, but still a long wait...typical summer in Vegas...
As usual, the staff who checks you in is hit or miss...the lady who helped us was a hit! She was nice and sincere...she made sure we had the online promotion we booked and answered my questions as a first time guest. She took into consideration my concern about not wanting to be on a low level near the noise of the lobby and current hotel construction...she gave us a standard room near the elevator on the 20th floor off of "inclinator #3" (elevator), which was good for the following reasons:
1. convenient to self-park
2. convenient to spa/pool
3. not too far from front desk/casino, but far enough to avoid excessive noise
3. player's club booth and a starbucks right off the elevator
very important to get a room near the inclinator/elevator as there really is only one per floor....due to the shape of the Luxor's pyramid, that inclinator/elevator sways - freaky....plus, you need to swipe your room key everytime you get in to make it work (or just press your floor really quickly after another person!)
since it has so many rooms, expect a delay if you request extra things from housekeeping...weirdest thing is they don't have any bath mats in bathroom, and when you request one, they send you this tiny rubber thing?? best to use a towel...
the "view" from your room out across to the "interior of the pyramid" to other rooms and the casino floor below is nice...but the novelty of the slanted "pyramid" window wears off after the first night!
Overall, a nicer hotel than the Excalibur, but still similar since they are run by the same people...
If you can stay Sun - Thurs, just about anywhere in Vegas will be more affordable...if you subsribe to their email list, hotels will send you promotions for food, spa, player's club, etc.
Enjoy!
the spa is, again, two steps above the Excalibur's spa...nicer towels...a little more of a variety in the products...more beverages available as you wait...
food court is small and limited....we were supposed to use our food credit at Fusia, but it was closed for no reason? when we told the front desk, they transfered credit to the Pyramid Cafe, a slightly above average place to eat when you don't feel like eating the buffet...the buffet is decent...I prefer breakfast...many options and it's not too expensive...
