If you're looking for the Vegas experience with an opulent themed hotel, you should definitely avoid the Fremont. If, on the other hand, you want a perfectly nice, simple place to stay and you don't need all the bells and whistles of Vegas, this is a great place to stay.
Location? No, it's not The Strip, but that's a good thing. Fremont Street is exciting in its own right, less chaotic, and certainly less crowded. Ambiance? Fine. Again, it's much more akin to what you would find in a nice hotel in another city, rather than Vegas, and that's a good thing. Rooms? Small, but the beds are comfortable and the colors are soothing.
Where the hotel could improve is on housekeeping. My room, which was ostensibly non-smoking and had a shiny plaque on the door which promised such, reeked of smoke. In addition, the sheets on the bed on the first night actually had several huge rips and holes. Housekeeping picked up the slack the next day and the room was kept impeccably after that, but I'm still wondering how anyone could possibly have thought it would be acceptable to make up a bed with ripped sheets.
Aside from that, the stay was fine and I wouldn't hesitate to return.
