While in Vagas after Christmas we went to visit the Neon Musuem - the Boneyard. It was one of the best tours of the trip, and quite frankly one of the best tours I have taken on any vacation.
You need to email and book a tour in advance, when we went they were having an open house day, so there were more people there then they would have on a normal tour. (Normal tours have no more than 15 people). But it was a great experience.
We took the 2pm tour which was made up of mostly locals and a handful of tourists. Our tour guidewas fantastic, I belive his name was Matt, was extremely knowledgeable about Las Vegas then and now. He told wonderful stories about how the signs came to be, stories of the hotels the signs were at etc. as the group walked though the yard of signs. I'm certain that I learned more about Vegas on that tour then from any travel guide or Vegas table coffee book.
You could also tell how passionate our tour guide (and the group running the museum) was about talking about and showing these old signs. They are also working hard to restore some of the signs and are also creating an actual visitors centre. - Keep up the great work!!
I would encourage anyone who visits Vegas to book a tour...is extremely worth the trip. We made a day of going to the boneyard then spending time on Freemont Street before returning to the hustle bustle of the strip.
I can't wait to go again the next time we visit Vegas to see what other signs have been added to the collection and what ones have been restored.
