I can see why people love the desert. Red Rock is a 13-mile drive with plenty of stops to see the amazing rocks, canyons and desert. It's a perfect retreat from nearby Las Vegas and an easy drive to it.

Red Rock was beautiful! When you get the map there are all kinds of places you can go. I went with a bunch of friends and we had so much fun hiking around. It is really worth it to spend a day of your trip out here. We were climbing on the rocks all over the place! They made the trails easier to follow now by adding "stairs" up some of the hard to climb places. Make sure you have steady shoes and a camera! We saw people rock climbing and stuff with all their equipment but we just did some hiking. The drive out was beautiful as well. If you need to get out of there in a timely manner, leave early because the loop takes a good half an hour to drive through.

Five dollars a car and a short drive out of Vegas gives you a great 13 mile drive through desert and beautiful rock formations.

If you are in the Vegas area, rent a car and do a day at Red Rock Canyon. The 13 mile loop is worth driving several times and you can gain readmittance as many times as you want for the $5 per car entry fee. The visitors center is under construction so be aware of limited parking and construction. The hiking trains ranged from easy to very difficult and I recommend GOOD hiking shoes and a cane. The sandstone area seemed to be the most interesting with rock climbing and beautiful views. There is limited bathroom facilities and no food or water except at the visitors center, therefore, take PLENTY of both. There is a great picnic area for families. One piece of advise, rent you car ahead of time as we waited to the day before and paid a preimum for the car as well as an expensive taxi ride out to the airport to pick up the car. Additionally, we had a 24hr. rental but took it back after about 12hrs. and Alamo gave us a nice discount off of the origional price agreement, so ask. If you have teenagers of avid hunters and fishermen, there is a Bass Pro Shop just about 5 miles from the airport at Silverton Casino that is worth the trip.
