“Expensive”

Liberace Museum

We visited the museum on a Sunday afternoon. It is $15 for 2 buildings: one with cars and pianos, the other with costumes and furniture. A docent in the costume building provided some interesting details on the costumes. I was surprised that there was no short movie that showed his act or described his life. It's not worth a detour.

My wife and I saw the guided tour, Wes' tribute show, and Wes play at Carlucio's the next eve. Liberace's life is a testament to persistance, talent, and the ability to "get a bigger kick out of what you do than others". There are two other laughs that were musically originated. From what I have read Mozart got the biggest kick out of his talent., deffinitely did Liberace too. Wes is in wonderful company. To quote Liberace, "more is wonderful'. What a God given talent! Wes is genuine. We miss him dearly. Go, see him, the museum and witness testament that what doing what you love despite adversity is its own reward, only then will your reward will be immense.

Though we enjoyed our visit to the Liberace Museum, we thought the entrance fee a bit high. It is now $15 a person. You visit two buildings with a bit of a walk between the two. We didn't think the employees were too friendly, and no one engaged us in discussion, though we attempted with a few comments towards them about Liberace, or his displays. The cars displayed are very cool, as well as some of his outlandish outfits and jewelry. The gift shop was of average quality, but I came away without purchasing anything-which is highly unusual for me! Do not, repeat, do not use a flash on your camera in the museum, even by mistake! We were chastised for this (we thought we had turned it off..), and then watched our entire time we were in this part of the museum.

“Extremely funny”

Liberace Museum

A couple of years ago I saw a documentary on Liberace on TV and I thought it was amazing how this man dared to go so extremely over the top with being extravagant. And openly homosexual in a time when this was not widely accepted.

He was also completely sick, for instance having his boyfriend undergo cosmetic surgery to look like HIM !!!!

Anyway, I had to see this museum and thought it was extremely funny to see all his extravaganza on display.

We have always said we would see the Liberace Museum "one of these days". It's not one of those "must do" items on everyone's list but it is definitely a slice of entertainment history and a celebration of a major entertainer. Indeed, you don't have to be a big fan of Liberace's to enjoy this small museum.

One can see the entire museum in just over an hour. It includes some of Liberace's favorite cars, many of his pianos and an entire room full of his outrageous costumes and shoes. In addition there is an excellent timeline of his life and career and a number of extra items such as his desk and his set of crystal copied from Queen Elizabeth's set.

The guided tour gives insight into Las Vegas history as well as Liberace's life. Many tidbits of interesting trivia are included. Display items are rotated periodically. There is also a gift shop and snack bar on the property.

The museum offers a free shuttle back to several points on the Strip. The admission fee of $12.50 is tax deductible, for pete's sake!
