A couple of years ago I saw a documentary on Liberace on TV and I thought it was amazing how this man dared to go so extremely over the top with being extravagant. And openly homosexual in a time when this was not widely accepted.

He was also completely sick, for instance having his boyfriend undergo cosmetic surgery to look like HIM !!!!

Anyway, I had to see this museum and thought it was extremely funny to see all his extravaganza on display.

We have always said we would see the Liberace Museum "one of these days". It's not one of those "must do" items on everyone's list but it is definitely a slice of entertainment history and a celebration of a major entertainer. Indeed, you don't have to be a big fan of Liberace's to enjoy this small museum.

One can see the entire museum in just over an hour. It includes some of Liberace's favorite cars, many of his pianos and an entire room full of his outrageous costumes and shoes. In addition there is an excellent timeline of his life and career and a number of extra items such as his desk and his set of crystal copied from Queen Elizabeth's set.

The guided tour gives insight into Las Vegas history as well as Liberace's life. Many tidbits of interesting trivia are included. Display items are rotated periodically. There is also a gift shop and snack bar on the property.

The museum offers a free shuttle back to several points on the Strip. The admission fee of $12.50 is tax deductible, for pete's sake!

You either smile at Mr. Entertainment or you dispise him. Fifty years ago, my mom went into a swoon everytime he appeared on TV---as did millions of other middle-aged women. Liberace is a social landmark. I came to appreciate just how much the guy exerted himself to earn the price of his audience's tickets.

The cars, the costumes, the artifacts are as entertaining now as when they were when first flaunted by the King of Swish.

By all means spend the extra bucks to hear Wes Winters play Liberace's piano and give a taste of Liberace's performance.

By all means chat up the volunteer docents and hear personal anecdotes about a warm, generous human being.

P.S. Don't be put off by the museum exterior which does not do the insides justice.

I'm in my late 20s and I loved it. I thought the musuem was amazing, I saw the Wes Winters show. He was great, made me laugh alot and very talented. Only thing bad about the show is the seating, its General admission table seating, but no drinks are served just food from cafe.. I had a hard time seeing Wes at times, because of peoples heads..Get there early.

I did my own tour. The costumes are amazing. I reccomend taking the shuttle bus from the musuem to your hotel. They play a liberace concert on dvd and the shuttle is free. I took a cab going from Paris and it cost $11.

If you are into fashion, art, design, pop culture, fan of Liberace you will 100% enjoy this musuem.

This was one of the things I really wanted to do on our trip, remembering my grandmother visiting the museum on her trip to Vegas and talking so enthusiastically about it.

We waited for the free strip bus for over 45 minutes which never showed (our fault as the the clocks changed the night before and we had forgotten) so we did take a taxi which was pricey - wait for a strip bus if you can!

The museum is in two buildings in the little strip mall as other people noted. However, the wee block mall is owned entirely by the Liberace Foundation so the other inhabitants pay rates which benefit the foundation -so worth a wee walk around.

We enjoyed the little walk of stars between the two buildings. It was interesting to see the cars and costumes, which are stunning. Most surprisingly, my husband thoroughly enjoyed the trip - probably more than I had expected to myself. It was a much smaller display that I expected, but good nonetheless and did make an interesting diversion from all the beeping and dark oppressive feel of the strip casinos for a morning!

The nice thing about it is that all the profit raised from the museum is used entirely to fund promising students on music scholarships, so absolutely worth the contribution from that point of view.

Definitely not easy to get to though from the strip - we walked back and don't recommend that at all! it's much longer than it looks on a map! Get the shuttle or a cab.
