The TRUMP HOTEL, Vegas (No casino, thank goodness).
At check-in, the clerk suggested an upgrade to our room. They have a photo book showing the different rooms. We were at a conference which had gotten great rates ($90 a night + the usual Valet/Spa/Pool fee of $15.00 a day).
The upgrade started at $50.00 a night additional and then, went down to $30.00 when I mulled it over. I offered $25.00 and got the two room suite. I did request to personally see the difference in the rooms. The clerk showed me both rooms.
The studio room has one major flaw. The bathroom door is not your usual, solid wood or metal door. It is a partially frosted, see-through glass door. If a guest came to visit & someone was in the sitting in the bathroom... too much is visible. That made simple the decision to upgrade to the one bedroom suite.
Even in the one bedroom suite (2 rooms), in the main bathroom area (off the bedroom), the door to the toilet is the same semi-frosted glass. Unless there is a bath mat rolled up on the floor, when the door is opened, the glass clangs against the 2 person Jacuzzi that is between it and the 2 person shower. It also has a bathroom with a separate shower off the kitchen/dining area. Fortunately, there is a solid wooden door there.
For privacy, there is a sliding wooden door that separates the bath area from the bedroom. It is a large bathroom about 10 feet wide and 20 ft long. In the main bathroom there is a large table with lamp, a large wall mirror, a lighted magnifying mirror and a comfortable chair. That room could double as a study room! On the opposite wall slightly above the two sinks, is a 12" plasma tv built into/behind the mirror. A handy remote control is provided.
Watch out when you adjust the shower water temperature. There is no blue color for cold or red color indicator for hot water. Once it is set, it takes at least 30 seconds for a change in temperature as the water has to come from a few floors below. (For the 30th floor, it was at the 16th floor, I was told by an engineer). Fortunately, there is enough space between the shower head and the wall that you can duck out of a hot stream of water. That's little consolation when your face is covered with soap! Also, there is no automatic cut-off switch on the shower head when the temperature goes over 108℉/42℃ as recommended by plumbers.
If you have a car, I suggest going to WalMart and purchasing some higher wattage light bulbs as the Trump chain provides a tiny 14 watt fluorescent bulb in each lamp = 55 watts incandescent. No need to strain eyes. We bought two packages of four Reveal incandescent 100 watt bulbs ($4.63 w/tax) for reading/study and used all but one. We also turned the lights off when we left the room; although electricity and lighting gets a run for the money in Vegas. We replaced the fluorescent bulbs at the end of the stay and left the Reveal full spectrum bulbs for the maid along with our tip. As you enter the suite at the kitchen there are two light switches on the wall. One doesn't seem to do anything. However, it controls an outlet with nothing plugged into it. Just above that outlet is a switch that controls the lamp on a table near the dining table and chairs.
OTHER NOTES: The bed is very soft, if you are used to a firmer bed. I complained and the maid came to remove a 4 in/10.16 cm thick down padding over the mattress. That made it firmer. And, if you have an allergy to down/feather pillows, request the synthetic fill pillows.
If you're a large person, be sure to request the extra long towels--everyday--or, the maid won't leave them always. And, if you want your room cleaned by a certain time request that at the concierge desk near the front desk. We clicked the on the wall lighted button for "Do Not Disturb" that appears outside the entrance way door (to two separate suites). With that showing, she never checked back to see if there was a change in the status. We either had to find her (not hard) or call the operator to get service.
The suite came with a full refrigerator/freezer, glass-top stove & oven, microwave and an electric dishwasher. There are glasses, plates, silverwear, pots and pans too. If you're staying awhile and will do some eating in, you'll need to buy some dish cleaning liquid, detergent tabs or sponge at WalMart. The closest is at 4505 West Charleston Blvd, (702) 258-4540. There are .99¢ Stores around too. The maid will supply dish towels. We washed the utensils were were about to use.
The internet costs $14.95 per 24 hours. Possibly due to the gold on the windows, we found it hard to make speedy wireless connections, although there was a cell phone tower not over 1/4 of a mile away on the north side of the building. Cell phone calls would often drop off. Between two carriers we did get through. Local calls on the hotel's landline are free.
I note that one comment mentioned the loud train whistle at night. That is true as the fresh air ventilation system is built into the horizontal frame of the windows. Otherwise, it is quiet.
In the living room is a 47"/119 cm LCD High Definition TV. The remote controls will just about drive you nuts (except for the bathroom one, which is simple). Everyone we spoke to said it took at least 15 minutes to figure it out. There are no printed instructions on how to use it. The bedroom has a 32"/81 cm HD tv between two large closets that come with two fancy robes. If a person is short, it is better to close the right hand door of each closet before closing the left hand door as the latch is so high up, only a tall person can reach it. Other way around is to tape a piece of paper over the latch so it won't click shut. That wasn't the smartest place to put a latch.
All parking and retrieval of cars is by valet. Typical tip is $2--$3.00 most said.
All in all, we did well on that $130.00 a night stay.
