4 Queens wasn't for me |
|
I know alot of you like the 4Q's. I read alot of good reviews. I think I expected too much. I like places like the SouthPoint, MGM, Stratosphere. Yes, the Strat. These are not luxury places but modern, I guess. I booked 4Q on Expedia for Jan. 1 thru the 4th at $26 a night. When I arrived and stepped off the elevator on the 18th floor I knew I had made a mistake. It reminded me of a senior home or nursing home already, and this is the hallway. It was just so small and the ceilings were inches above my head. I opened my room door and was hit in the face with a 82 degree room. The room was not very clean, carpets not vaccumed. And so small. The bathroom faucet and toilet looked like they were from the 70's. The air wasn't on. I couldn't get it to work. I turned the thermostat down and nothing happens, I turn it up and the heat comes on. I called down and they said they would send a engineer. OK, an hour of waiting and I go down to the casino. Maybe he or she will come while I'm out. I returned to the same heat. I opened the window and got on the phone with Expedia. I told them I called and no engineer has come. Yes, I called once. No, I didn't feel I should have to keep calling the front desk. I told the friendly guy on the phone I wanted to stay elsewhere. He said to hold and he would get the hotel on the phone. He came back on to tell me the desk had no notes of my call down. So, another reason I now dont like the 4Q's. I tell him I want to cancel and go elsewhere. No refund on this first night but the next 2 are cancellable. Great! I book the SouthPoint for the 2nd and 3rd. Am I too young for the 4Q's? It just didn't seem like Vegas to me. When I go to Vegas I like a nice room with new, clean furnishings. And some A/C also. I slept that night with the window open and even on the 18th floor it was sooo noisy. All cabs should have their horns disconnected. Seriously, I heard cab horns several times every minute. So, whats up with all the great reviews? I am not wealthy. I dont live in a mansion, in fact a farm house in rural Iowa. Maybe I just happened to get the wrong room on the wrong day.? |

"When I go to Vegas I like a nice room with new, clean furnishings." Fair enough. Just be prepared to pony up more than 26 bucks a night...

If you didn't know Downtown is a dump then you didn't do your homework. It's fun downtown but certainly not nice. What did you expect for $26 a night?
|
All the rooms we've stayed in downtown have been pretty basic and are small compared to strip hotels, but I wouldn't have put up with a hot room. I also would have had the front desk move me to another room rather than wait for them to send someone to the room to look at it. Age doesn't make a difference in the types of rooms we like, our preferences determine what we like. You now know you are probably not a downtown peron, or the next time try the Golden Nugget since you would be happier with their rooms I'm sure :)

"When I go to Vegas I like a nice room with new, clean furnishings." Then why book 4Q? Sorry you had a bad experience - at least now you know what you don't like, always good. As far as the reviews here - you have to take them with a grain of salt, and in context. Also, maybe next time don't book using a third party - if you had booked with the hotel you could have moved the first night - and use a credit card if you can so you have them as a resource if the hotel won't let you cancel. Glad it worked out in the end.

I will say that a hot room would have driven me crazy. I would have went downstairs to the check in desk and ask them to call maintenance and sat there until it was confirmed fixed or asked to be moved to another room. I am glad you were able to move. I stayed at the Mirage in July for the 1st time and was given a non-renovated room. I think it was the next floor to be renovated. Now I smoke, but when we exited the elevator my god the hallway smelled like a hundred ghosts were currently smoking in the hallway. The hallway was also hot and stuffy. I opened the room and it smelled so bad and so stuffy, there was no way I was staying there. I must say I like the old decor a lot. I called downstairs and asked to be moved and they were very accommodating and I was assigned a renovated room and I didn't have to return to the front desk because they reprogrammed our keys. So our stay was great and the renovated room was very nice. BUT, if they did not move me I would have hated my trip and the Mirage. Vegas hotels seem to have bad and good rooms, renovated and dated rooms, bad views and great views, quiet and loud. I think that is why there as so many mixed reviews for the same hotel. I don't think all hotels are for everyone. I enjoy staying at Bally's which is not fancy but there is just something about it that I love. It is great that Expedia moved you. and for $26 dollars I expect heat !!!!!

I agree with everyone else, $26 should get you clean and cool, nice is not included in that price. In the future make demands to the desk, if not cancel the remaining nights, get your bags and go elsewhere.
|
Sounds like you got what you paid for. Next time book a room that costs more than a tip to a bj dealer. I mean 26 bucks? Comeon.
|
It could have been a bad day. Did you find the crowd at South Point a lot younger? If so I might have been there on the wrong day.
|
The crowd was younger at SP. To be fair the place is 3 times the size as 4Q's too. It really shouldn't matter if I paid 26 or 96 a night, should it. The A/C should work and the room cleaned. I did not create this post to bash the hotel and I DO NOT think it or downtown is a "dump". Just trying to figure out how the hotel can get so many good reviews on many different sites. It just wasn't Vegas to me. I think of myself as a person who does not need "fancy" things and I knew the 4Q's was not fancy when I booked it. Yes, we are all different and like different things but I just cant figure out who the peolpe are that rate it a 4.2 on Expedia and all the high marks here on TA. How are these folks so different than me?

Jason, I think you did the right thing by you and I wouldn't worry what people say here (me included). It's your vacation, you had some basic expectations and even those were not met and you made changes. Good for you! It is good that you posted your experience, as it might help one future traveler from either getting a repeat experience, or at least they have a "warning" that this is a possible outcome at the said property. A/C in LV is basic service. When we were at NYNY and our room leaked during a freak rainstorm, no questions, we were moved to a suite in about a nano-second. I believe that's how those kind of challenges should be handled. 4Q dropped the ball. No matter how much or little you paid for your shelter, A/C is a basic service in LV. Thanks for the input, just another bit of info to file for us for future LV stays.
