I wasn't going to weigh in on this thread, but something hasn't been said which should be (it will come at the end).
Disclaimer: I haven't stayed at Palazzo which is why I was going to skip this. But I've seen the hotel/rooms, and stayed at Venetian.
My personal choice is Wynn, but this is partly by default. It's a combination of what I like about Wynn and what I don't like about the others. I like the design of Wynn. The fact that the decent restaurants are seperate from the casino or main tourist areas.
I like the design of the casino, with the race/sportsbook on the far side, and the poker room being a real room down a seperate aisle isolated from slot machines. I like that all the table games are on the outside of aisles, also seperate from machines. With the machines all in the middle areas. This design contributes to the atmosphere of the casino and makes playing at the tables different than many other casinos.
And I can't tell you how impressed I am that they have the best VP paytables on the Strip. You know that they could have easily gotten away with putting in 8/5 JOB instead of the 9/6 paytables. Many people wouldn't know the difference, and most would have considered it part of the price you pay to play at one of the better hotels. You also have to know that every month when they sit down at their meetings there are bean counters in the orginization BEGGING THEM to change this, yet somehow they resist.
I love the fact that there are fewer kids at
Wynn than the other hotels. This has a major effect on the atmosphere of the public areas, especially the pools. And the pool is a big part of our LV experiance.
When we stay at Wynn, we feel that we are staying at a hotel that happen to has a casino, instead of a casino with a hotel. The only other property that gives us the same impression is THEhotel.
I prefer the Venetian/Pallazo over Bellagio mostly for the rooms. But I don't like the size and scale of the property. I'm sorry but to me it does feel like a mall. And I don't think the dining options are equal to Bellagio or Wynn. And the cheaper options are always very crowded.
The biggest negative I have with Venetian (and probably Palazzo eventually) is the large number of kids, especially during school holidays. Without meaning too, they've designed rooms that are well suited for families. It is a problem that has become worse every year.
I've never been a big fan of the Bellagio rooms. From the time they opened, I've preferred the rooms at MB. The MB rooms are better designed, utilizing space more efficiently. And of course they have the floor-to-ceiling windows---which every luxury hotel built after them now has. Also I believe the Bellagio rooms are overpriced, as you are also paying for the view and public attractions.
Staying at Bellagio is not a restful experiance for me. Getting from point A to point B in the casino can be a challenge. It is very spread out, and of course often crowded with people. It isn't the people at machines or tables, but there are always many in the aisles and walkways.
And of course there are always throngs in the public areas. Bellagio is a beautiful showplace and rightfully the number one tourist attraction in Las Vegas. But I prefer not to reside in a tourist attraction.
In Las Vegas I want my hotel to be my oasis from the revelry, crowds, and excitement. For this reason I prefer Wynn over the other choices.
BUT, and no one has mentioned this; If I knew someone was going to visit Las Vegas for only one time, I would recommend Bellagio. Because Bellagio delivers the quitessential Las Vegas experiance. Just like Casaer's Palace used to years ago. This is the LV that many people expect and want to see.
BTW: This discussion will be forever ongoing although the names may change (City Center, Encore) and will always offer different valid opinions.
