 The Ongoing Wynn/Palazzo/Bellagio Debate

After spending time on these forums and reading various LV travel blogs, I have noticed something. The Wynn, The Palazzo, and The Bellagio are all attempting to attract the same clients, and they are in stiff competition with each other.

They all do not have much of a theme beyond elegance, they all have spectacular dining, they are all massive, they all cost ridiculous amounts of money to build, and they are all some of the more expensive accommodations on the Strip.

And that is why there is not a general consensus on which one is "the best."

When one stays at these properties, he/she seems to gain quite sense of loyalty to one of these properties. I stayed at the Palazzo last summer and fell in love. As some of you may know, I always recommend the Palazzo to others. I love the openness of the entire property, especially the casino, I love the huge rooms, I love the amazing shopping, I love the great food, I love the Player's Club, and most of all, I love the location.

I find the Wynn to be a bit "dark." Some find it beautiful, but I just don't like the dark/ornate feel of the place. Those who like the Wynn say the Palazzo is "cheap looking." Those who like the Bellagio say that it has the best location on the strip.

So, I decided to create this thread to address these issues. I know that we will never find a "winner," but we can post our opinions. If you like any of these properties, say why you do. Better yet, if you have stayed at all three, compare them.

PS - please, not sarcastic remarks like "why would you pay so much $ for a hotel" or "your thread is useless." If you something valuable to say, say it. If you don't, don't. And I realized that this has been discussed before, but I figured a central place was needed to discuss one of the more common questions on this board.

Virginia Beach - for the young out to have fun.

Nags Head - Nice beach, not too crowded, easy drive for me, for those who want to cool out

Atlanta Beach, NC - my favorite - less chance running into anyone I know. I use to go every year until I discovered Vegas in 2000.

Just of curiosity: does this post make grammatical sense to everyone? I received a PM earlier in which someone said: "Maybe proofread before posting. Your Wynn/Bellagio/Palazzo post makes no grammatical sense."

He also said that the Bellagio was like a "french brothel." Anyone else get this feeling?

I guess he does not like my opinions very much!

That's funny, the Bellagio is the only place I'm SURE I spotted a hooker. But I guess it would technically be an Italian brothel :)

dsoren, have you stayed at Bellagio? Or Wynn? Just wondering. One point of reference I've found is that it seems Bellagio has been taken over by gawkers with strollers that impede casino flow. And Adelson built Palazzo close to his convention area for a reason. The place always seems full of conventioneers with name tags in huge groups with terrible elevator lines. Subjective takes for sure.

It made plenty of sense to me, and I guess all the other posters since they are replying! Chalk it up to the school marm that finds more importance in correcting grammar and spelling, than sharing real opinions and helpful advice here on the TA Forum. Always a rotten apple but it doesnt spoil the whole bunch! ;) Carry On, this was a great topic, and enjoying everyone's views.

UP, that reminded me of our surreal experience in April at P when we happened to make the mistake of wandering around at 8:45 am - omg the thundering HERDS of convention goers - they just kept coming in droves and droves, never seen so many people rushing, rushing, rushing - looked like GST. DH said "boy, I'm glad that's not me anymore".

Oh, yes! That's it! =o/ The Bellagio is the ONLY hotel/casino that has ever had hookers show up....sheesh! A "little" sarcasm here. Good Lord, people! They are all over Vegas....in all casinos.

In fact, I read a post on this board about Mr. Wynn, himself, finding out about a couple of hookers and then tossing them out of the Wynn. I'm sure, though, that he doesn't and hasn't really known just how many have frequented his lovely facility.

Why oh why do people try to trash the Bellagio's reputation....it's like they have a vendetta or something??????

I wasn't going to weigh in on this thread, but something hasn't been said which should be (it will come at the end).

Disclaimer: I haven't stayed at Palazzo which is why I was going to skip this. But I've seen the hotel/rooms, and stayed at Venetian.

My personal choice is Wynn, but this is partly by default. It's a combination of what I like about Wynn and what I don't like about the others. I like the design of Wynn. The fact that the decent restaurants are seperate from the casino or main tourist areas.

I like the design of the casino, with the race/sportsbook on the far side, and the poker room being a real room down a seperate aisle isolated from slot machines. I like that all the table games are on the outside of aisles, also seperate from machines. With the machines all in the middle areas. This design contributes to the atmosphere of the casino and makes playing at the tables different than many other casinos.

And I can't tell you how impressed I am that they have the best VP paytables on the Strip. You know that they could have easily gotten away with putting in 8/5 JOB instead of the 9/6 paytables. Many people wouldn't know the difference, and most would have considered it part of the price you pay to play at one of the better hotels. You also have to know that every month when they sit down at their meetings there are bean counters in the orginization BEGGING THEM to change this, yet somehow they resist.

I love the fact that there are fewer kids at

Wynn than the other hotels. This has a major effect on the atmosphere of the public areas, especially the pools. And the pool is a big part of our LV experiance.

When we stay at Wynn, we feel that we are staying at a hotel that happen to has a casino, instead of a casino with a hotel. The only other property that gives us the same impression is THEhotel.

I prefer the Venetian/Pallazo over Bellagio mostly for the rooms. But I don't like the size and scale of the property. I'm sorry but to me it does feel like a mall. And I don't think the dining options are equal to Bellagio or Wynn. And the cheaper options are always very crowded.

The biggest negative I have with Venetian (and probably Palazzo eventually) is the large number of kids, especially during school holidays. Without meaning too, they've designed rooms that are well suited for families. It is a problem that has become worse every year.

I've never been a big fan of the Bellagio rooms. From the time they opened, I've preferred the rooms at MB. The MB rooms are better designed, utilizing space more efficiently. And of course they have the floor-to-ceiling windows---which every luxury hotel built after them now has. Also I believe the Bellagio rooms are overpriced, as you are also paying for the view and public attractions.

Staying at Bellagio is not a restful experiance for me. Getting from point A to point B in the casino can be a challenge. It is very spread out, and of course often crowded with people. It isn't the people at machines or tables, but there are always many in the aisles and walkways.

And of course there are always throngs in the public areas. Bellagio is a beautiful showplace and rightfully the number one tourist attraction in Las Vegas. But I prefer not to reside in a tourist attraction.

In Las Vegas I want my hotel to be my oasis from the revelry, crowds, and excitement. For this reason I prefer Wynn over the other choices.

BUT, and no one has mentioned this; If I knew someone was going to visit Las Vegas for only one time, I would recommend Bellagio. Because Bellagio delivers the quitessential Las Vegas experiance. Just like Casaer's Palace used to years ago. This is the LV that many people expect and want to see.

BTW: This discussion will be forever ongoing although the names may change (City Center, Encore) and will always offer different valid opinions.

Southernbell, if you took my comment about the hooker as a bash on Bellagio, you couldn't be more wrong. It was a commentary on my naivete and myopia - I'm sure they're all around, that was the only place I was ever sure I saw one. I'm a huge fan of Bellagio, but now I'm liking spreading out more in the P/V suites. When Bellagio matches their price (even for a room) then I can't wait to stay there again. We make a visit there almost every trip whether we're staying there or not.

Ktinca, I'm glad you weighed in. Your critiques are always insightful. The only time we traveled during school vacations this year was July at the V - saw very few kids. Saw many more kids in MGM in Feb.

And you know this how?

Wynn is completely aware that they have a FEW of the 9/6 JOB machines on the strip. They are also aware of how many players do not know the difference in the games, are uneducated gamblers (look at the number of slot players!) and are awre of how much $$ these machines make and the volume of business they bring in. Until you're a Wynn bean counter I wouldn't post about what you think you know. Steve Wynn is a smart guy.
