 The Ongoing Wynn/Palazzo/Bellagio Debate

After spending time on these forums and reading various LV travel blogs, I have noticed something. The Wynn, The Palazzo, and The Bellagio are all attempting to attract the same clients, and they are in stiff competition with each other.

They all do not have much of a theme beyond elegance, they all have spectacular dining, they are all massive, they all cost ridiculous amounts of money to build, and they are all some of the more expensive accommodations on the Strip.

And that is why there is not a general consensus on which one is "the best."

When one stays at these properties, he/she seems to gain quite sense of loyalty to one of these properties. I stayed at the Palazzo last summer and fell in love. As some of you may know, I always recommend the Palazzo to others. I love the openness of the entire property, especially the casino, I love the huge rooms, I love the amazing shopping, I love the great food, I love the Player's Club, and most of all, I love the location.

I find the Wynn to be a bit "dark." Some find it beautiful, but I just don't like the dark/ornate feel of the place. Those who like the Wynn say the Palazzo is "cheap looking." Those who like the Bellagio say that it has the best location on the strip.

So, I decided to create this thread to address these issues. I know that we will never find a "winner," but we can post our opinions. If you like any of these properties, say why you do. Better yet, if you have stayed at all three, compare them.

PS - please, not sarcastic remarks like "why would you pay so much $ for a hotel" or "your thread is useless." If you something valuable to say, say it. If you don't, don't. And I realized that this has been discussed before, but I figured a central place was needed to discuss one of the more common questions on this board.

Norgetroll -

Four seasons is in a class of its own. That is why I didn't mention it on here. There is a big difference between $200/night and $400/night.

Norgetroll, you made an interesting point which I don't agree with. You said something like "you don't love the decor but you're just staying there, not buying it".

Well, I feel if it were a house and I WAS buying it, I could rip everything down and change it to what I like. Since it IS just a hotel room, I'm stuck looking at what is there.

Great thread.

Since we're arriving at Palazzo tomorrow for 5 days, I thought I'd add my comments but WarmWinds said everything and more that I would have, lol.

This will be our 4th stay this year there along with 3 at Venetian.

As for staying at all three hotels mentioned, Palazzo is our favorite hands down. Love the open feel of the casino, nice wide open aisles, the quick 5-10 minute walk between Ventian and Palazzo or Palazzo and Wynn. Never had poor Cocktail, Check-In, Restaurant or Guest Services. The rooms are the most comfortable we've had in town. With 4Seasons out of the question, that would be a close tie for us though.

Bellagio is a beautiful hotel and the grounds and theme are excellent but after a few stays it just kinda lost the exceitment for us. Grantd the Lake View Rooms are a huge treat to have but we're never in the room long enough to fully enjoy it. It would be a tie between Palazzo/Venetian (somehow I just combine them, lol) and Bellagio for dining choices.

Wynn is also nice inside but our least favorite of the rooms. Nice size, but I have never liked the decor and colors at all. Great dining options though and the casino has been good to me at times.

But as others have said, it all boils down to everyone's choice of what makes them happy and comfortable while in town. But between the three, you really can't go wrong at all.

Spinguy,

I will be at the Palazzo this Sun. - Wed. Maybe I will see you!

Anyway, you like the Palazzo for the same reasons we do.

And I agree, the common areas at the Wynn are pretty nice. But when we ate there last summer, I asked if I could see a room. They showed me one, and I was unimpressed. Looked pretty generic to me, and small.

I don't think there is a "debate" at all - these properties, and many others, are discussed daily, people offer opinions and share ideas.

Hotels are not one size fits all - the reasons people like properties, including these 3, varies. There shouldn't be a consensus of which is "best" - just personal choice of what suits individuals best. None of these is the best property in LV.

Each time a new property is built "things learned" from previous properties can be used - as Wynn did w/ The Wynn after Bellagio after Mirage after GN - as in any business they adjust to suit the market.

We like The Wynn of these 3, golf villa or tower rooms. The resort rooms are not as nice as those at The P and the P bathroom is better (The Wynn is almost identical in size and layout, fixtures different and no dressing table).

All 3 have nice restaurants, we love Alex, Bouchon, Olive's. Wynn has the golf course - important to us. Wynn has better VP, all 3 have good blackjack rules at our preferred limit. Bellagio has too many non-guests that you need to navigate through/around - bad design flaw.

I do not consider malls part of the hotel - you can stay at any of them and never see the shopping areas or crowds they attract.

Bridgefan, you know I respect your opinions and advice most of the time, but I don't see anything wrong with this discussion.

Many posters (especially first timers) have a tough time deciding where to stay, and maybe something someone says on this thread will help them make a decision from an embarrassment of riches.

Me, for example - I usually ignore comments about "service", because we are very low maint and usually don't require hand holding. However, I will honestly say that the Palazzo had the worst "service" I've experienced. I don't recall the specifics, but it seemed every time you had to call about anything, you were sent into an endless loop of unanswered phones. But I love their rooms (and bathrooms) and would not hesitate to stay there again. The "service" is just not as big a factor for me.

But I hate ugly rooms. And I can recall heading to our room in the Wynn and looking into open rooms that were being cleaned and seeing the terra cotta colored paint and practically vomiting along the way (which, by the way, would have matched perfectly :)...and being so happy that we got a "brown" room. And it was still ugly.

I, for one, am very affected by the way my room looks. Some people are not. But I'm going to add my opinion to this debate in the hope that if someone reads this they might have a better idea of what to expect.

I would still love for the Bellagio fountains to be outside the V/P complex - THAT would be perfect.

well, warm, I never said there was anyhting wrong with discussion - you mjust be referring to someone's post?

Even if someone did, it doesn't matter - they are entitled to their opinion as much as the rest of us. That's what is good about public forums - we share opinions and learn from each other, take or leave what works for us.

I hope you decide to drive to the beach from ORF once you land - it is close - no good reason not to plan to. I don't know if you've evr been to Va beach or what your reason for visiting is, it's not a great beach area. it's fine, not the preferred beach for most area locals - most of us head to the OBX or elsewhere.
