With our economy in the dumps, better deals in Vegas?

I'm not a vulture or anything, and I'd rather not be able to ask this question at all! However, after 9/11, Vegas was offering dirt cheap room rates & offers. Many of my friends, who normally could not have afforded to go, were able to stay at a top-notch Vegas hotel for the first time. Has anyone seen this trend beginning now at all?

Actually, I've been hearing a lot about this particular great deal lately...

For only $440,000, your luxury stay includes spa treatments, banquets, golf outings, & MORE! But the best part of this deal is that you also get $85 billion to gamble with!!

This is an offer so great that it should not come around again, but then again, who knows, right?

I REALLY hope your joking.

If you sell all your stocks now that is guaranteeing one thing, huge losses.

This is the time to BUY stocks, when they are discounted so heavily, not sell at or near the bottom of the market.

And BTW, I also hope you understand that if you liquidate your 401K you also get to pay penalties and interest of about 20-25%.

That being said, I must think you are kidding here. Just trying to "save" you if you are serious.

I find your question phrase interesting . . . "with our economy in the dumps ...".

If our economy were *really* as bad as we get told every single day, over and over ad nauseum, I would think that *nobody* would even be traveling, much less gambling money away.

Yet, the only point in many posters comments are how to get a decent percentage saving in hotel prices, not whether or not they can even afford to travel for leisure.

When truly tough times do hit, the first thing to go is "disposable" income - money for leisure travel, eating out, etc. After tourist hotels and restaurants adjust their numbers for seasonal fluctuations, it does not seem that the country as a whole is "in the dumps" quite yet, if it ever will be.

Your welcome.

"but I am aware of all of your points."

I thought so, just wanted to make sure.

BTW, if you bring back extra cash from your trip, put some of it into Pfizer, BofA and Microsoft.

In 12-18 months the profits from those stocks will pay for a week or two in Vegas.

I know that Ballys isn't as nice as the other hotels mentioned but I got 4 nights including Fri and Sat for $370. 100 for Fri, 120 for Sat and 47 for Sun and Mon. That is not too bad. Maybe I will get another offer before I leave. But if not, I am just glad to get to Vegas. Thought I wouldn't make it there for a minute.
