My husband and I are planning our first trip to LV in early May, and we're debating about getting a car, too. We might want to take a day and go to Red Rock Canyon, etc. And we're considering staying at Mandalay Bay, which I know is at the far end of the Strip.

But even if the car rental is cheap, I'm guessing that parking fees will be insane. Maybe we're better off paying for taxis and the bus?

If we wanted to rent a car for, say, one night, are there rental places around the Strip, or do we need to head back to the airport to pick up the car?

Strass...do you mean parking fees at strip hotels?? There are none! All major hotels have free self park garages, and free valet service (Just tip the valet guys).

C0wgirl216....I think once you rent a car you will always rent one for future trips. Most of my favorite places are off strip (Lake Las Vegas, GVR in Henderson, etc.) It really gives you freedom to do some exploring, and well worth it to me!!

I've rented every time...and I almost always use Priceline or Hotwire...just put in your own bid and you can ususally save around 30% under the lowest price you can find on the internet. They'll pair you with major companies like Alamo, Avis, dollar, etc.

I say...yes rent!! =)
