I stayed at the El Cortez in Downtown Las Vegas Sept 2-8 and was very pleased. I booked a non-smoking, king in the tower. I was in room 801. Likes: 1. Forget Limos and Taxis. Catch the city bus at the airport. It will take you right past the rear of El Cortez on Ogden Road. Just bring your luggage... more

I was searching for an inexpensive hotel to check-in to as we reached Vegas quite late at night. The El Cortez was a great intermediary hotel. The rooms were clean and the staff was nice enough. more

We stayed here in March 2009. The price was reasonable and the location was convenient to get to Freemont Street. The downtown area has cleaned up significantly over the past few years. I did not feel unsafe at this hotel or walking from here to Freemont Street. The room itself was dated but large and clean. The bathroom was tiny... more

Friendly and helpful staff. Room is clean and comfortable. I repeatedly stay at this hotel. In fact, I am going there again this week. Review of environmental aspects: They use the small bottles that use a lot of packaging instead of bulk dispensers for their bathroom amenities (shower, shampoo, soap). Their towel service is by request: if the towel is... more

We usually stay on the strip, but with the current economic climate we decided to cut corners, one of which was for us to stay downtown. It actually made a nice change to stay off the strip and buses run every 10 mins up to the strip. The hotel is quite rundown but is clean and the staff are great.... more

My wife and I visit las vegas 4 or 5 times a year. We stay both on the strip and downtown. Normally we stay at the Golden nugget or the Four queens when downtown. After reading reviews about the cortez we decided to give it a try. We were very happy there. The tower rooms are clean, nicely furnished and... more

Pretty good, cheep price. Things were clean and I can't say I have any real complaints per-say. I went, just to say I spent the night here. This was Mob owned back in the late 1940's. Saw the Rat Pack is Back show down the street, drove around town, ate, lost 40 buck in under 2 mins. on the strip.... more

I travelled to vegas to play poker and after being unable to stay in the Golden Nugget I decided to split my accommodation budget and stay half the week in the cheapest I could find and half in one of the best. I used trip advisor and despite the mixed reviews decided on El Cortez and Bellagio. I was really... more

We stayed at 3 different hotels during our Las Vegas stay and El Cortez ranked the worst of the three. The ladies at the front desk were nice. Our a/c didn't work and the maintainance man was rude. We got moved to another room which did not have a view of the strip. The furnishings in the rooms are nice.... more

Husband promised me that if I agreed to stay here and not the Palazzo or Wynn, we could rent a car. Soo, I decided to grin and bear it and stayed in a Vintage room. That is a room where you have to walk up stairs to get to it. Nice old furniture and the room is clean enough. My... more
