A pretty cheap place to stay. Paid US$52 excluding tax. The rooms were big. Towels were clean. However, the rooms, even the non smoking ones, smelt very strongly of cigarette smoke. I changed 2 rooms and the smell was still there. In the end, I gave up and just slept there for one night. Probably the smoke came from the... more

Booked this because it was cheap on I4vegas.com Other than a VERY smoky hotel lobby, we loved it. we were upgraded. the valet service is very quick and free (we tipped) and it is a couple of short blocks to the Deuce - the bus which runs up and down Las Vegas avenue for $2 a ride or $5 for... more

I took a gamble on the elco because the rates were so good.I was definitely a winner .Check in was a breeze. My wife always checks the rooms first before we sign, we were both very satisfied and comfortable with it.We were giving many 2 for1 meal coupons and 5$ off each for there restraunts. We used them all .The food... more

Thanks to all the other reviews we weren't alarmed by the neighborhood. We felt safe walking the two blocks to Fremont Street at all hours of the day or night. This was a complete different Las Vegas trip, as we are used to the hotels on the strip. The El Cortez was perfectly fine for our needs. Check in was fast. The... more

My husband and I just returned from a 2 night stay at this hotel. It is located just a very short walk from the Fremont Experience area, and was easy to find from the freeway. A previous review I had read was accurate regarding the check-in process. We had booked our stay a month in advance thru Expedia however the... more

I’ve been going to Las Vegas since 1979. I believe that the first two times you visit, you should stay on the Strip, walk around with your eyes and mouth wide open, experience the overpriced hotels, tight slots, high minimums at the tables, and the underpaying video poker machines. By your third trip, you’re ready to stay Downtown. Which brings... more

Yes the rooms are large and fairly clean, the hotel entrance and general area much better than it was afew years ago. However, there was a good deal of construction going on at the new tower being built right next door, and it began at 6 a.m. It penetrated our 4th floor north facing room and from conversations with other... more

One of the few remaining genuine "Old Vegas" hotel\casinos. I hate using "Old Vegas" since that is what the Strip visitors call downtown Fremont Street area. But it is an older Vegas hotel and has that feel about it. I like the hotel and the casino. There is some age to the rooms, but they are clean and my room... more

I made a solo trip to Las Vegas and stayed for three nights(Feb. 24-27) at the El Cortez. I was able to check into a Pavilion Room when I arrived at 2:00 . It was fine--a non-smoking room --# 5503. There was a good view of the area when standing outside on the cement walkway. The bed was comfortable, the... more
